Job summary

Novolex is seeking a Maintenance Technician (Electrician) for the 376 Thermoforming Plant in Brampton, Canada. You will perform skilled trade work including mechanical/electrical overhauling, installation and preventive maintenance of process equipment and monitor utilities systems daily.

Strong PLC and electrical troubleshooting skills are needed, plus ability to work at heights with ESA code awareness. This is a full-time role with competitive compensation and benefits.

Qualifications

  • PLC knowledge preferred across listed brands; o&m of electrical systems.
  • Understanding pneumatic, hydraulic, mechanical systems and valves.
  • Experience with utility equipment including compressors, pumps, chillers, burners.
  • Knowledge of servo motors, drives and safety circuits.
  • Ability to work at heights and on electrical conduits; ESA code awareness.

Responsibilities

  • Perform skilled trade work including mechanical/electrical overhauling, installation and maintenance of process equipment.
  • Assist in maintenance and cleaning of work areas and inspect machinery for irregularities.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance and measure performance vs downtime targets.
  • Operate and set up various machine tools and align/install machinery per plan.
  • Install and inspect piping at ground and ceiling levels; monitor utilities equipment daily.
  • Follow lockout/tagout procedures and maintain 5S housekeeping in work area.

How You'll Perform the Role

Principal Job Duties

  • Perform skilled trade work including Mechanical / Electrical overhauling, installation and maintenance of all process industry equipment etc.
  • Assist in the maintenance and cleaning of work areas
  • Inspect and examine machinery and equipment to detect and investigate irregularities, malfunctions and failures
  • Conduct all preventative and other maintenance activities as per set procedures and measure performance with respect to the total machine down time
  • Perform skilled machining work using lathe, milling machine, shaper, drill press and other machine tools (as per license)
  • Conduct hand fitting of machine parts to very fine tolerances using a variety of tools and equipment used in general shop practices (as per license)
  • Install, align, dismantle and move stationary industrial machinery and mechanical equipment including but not limited to pumps, motors, blowers, chillers, dryers, burners, grinders, shredders, fans, tanks, conveyors, according to layout plans using lifting devices, hand and power tools
  • Install and inspect all type of piping laying at ground and ceiling level both
  • Conduct monitoring of all equipment (Utilities equipment) on daily basis and work it accordingly for its smooth running.
  • Other than routine maintenance, participate on all improvement and building repair and maintenance project as guided by supervisor
  • Operate hoisting and lifting devices such as forklift, scissor lift, cranes, and jacks to position machinery and parts during the installation, set-up and repair of machinery.
  • Make timely operational decisions and address/respond to alarm conditions and emergencies under the direction of the Shift Supervisor to ensure operational sustainability and efficiency within established performance guidelines
  • Provide updates and maintain the required documentation/ checklist on all work area maintenance activities (work orders and daily activity report).
  • Record the spare parts used and submit request to Spare Parts Coordinator for replenishing the spares
  • Clean dust collector filters and clear evacuation line if required
  • Clean Grinders and grinder bags (both clear and black, help can be asked for bag cleaning from supervisor if required)
  • Clean the work area once the job is done as per BRC regulations
  • Diligently follow lockout / tag out procedures whenever required
  • Maintain proper housekeeping and 5S in own work area and around work units
  • Any other duties as assigned by the Management
What We Need From You

Job Requirements

  • PLC knowledge preferably OMRON, B&R, Allan-Bradley, Vipa, GE and Siemens.
  • Understanding pneumatic, Hydraulic, mechanical systems and valves
  • Strong knowledge of utility equipment including but not limited to compressors, grinders, pumps, shredders, water towers, chillers, crystallizers, dryers, burners etc.
  • Knowledge of servo motors, drives and safety circuits.
  • Able to work at heights on electrical conduits
  • Able to perform work on 600 volts main and bus bars
  • Arc Flash training
  • Must be able to work at heights and use industrial lifting and moving equipment including but not limited to Scissor lifts, genie boom, forklifts and ladders etc.
  • Must have knowledge of electrical codes to satisfy ESA requirement.

  • Computer literate and able to use Microsoft Office (Outlook / Word / Excel)
  • Good communication in English (verbal and written)
