A local non-profit organization in Kelowna is looking for a dedicated Maintenance Technician to perform various maintenance tasks across their facilities. The ideal candidate should have experience in general maintenance, strong communication skills, and the ability to lift and carry heavy loads. The Maintenance Technician will have expertise in home and apartment building repair and maintenance. This role requires basic construction, maintenance, organization, and communication skills. They work across all JHSOK locations and will bring a cooperative, service-minded perspective to the role.
The primary responsibility of this role is to perform general maintenance duties at JHSOK facilities and ensure equipment is in clean, orderly, and functional condition. This role works closely with the Directors, Managers, and staff and will execute their position in accordance with the Mission, Vision, and Core Values of JHSOK. The Maintenance Technician must remain cognizant that staff and residents may be using rooms or facilities during the time of service/repair work.

General carpentry - rough and finish
Install appliances and equipment
Perform minor fixes (eg. repair broken locks, filling holes in walls)
Minor plumbing, electrical work, and appliance repair
Report minor repairs, property damage, or vandalism
Assist with move-in/move-out inspections
Keep accurate, orderly records of repairs
Maintain inventory of equipment and supplies
Liaise with Director of Facilities regarding spending and adherence to budget
Uphold high degree of professionalism when representing JHSOK in community and while driving
Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week
Rotating on-call
High school diploma with basic math skills
1 - 3 years of maintenance experience
Valid WHMIS or ability to obtain prior to commencing work
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Able to manage large workload and prioritize tasks
Basic knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems
Experience with proper use of hand and electrical tools
Able to meet the physical demands of the role including: lifting (up to 50 lbs), pushing heavy objects, carrying, reaching, using ladders, using stairs several times per day, and prolonged periods of standing and walking
Willing and able to work rotating on-call schedule
Valid Class 5 drivers’ licence and clean drivers’ abstract
Able to obtain a clear vulnerable sector Criminal Record Check
Demonstrated experience using computer software such as Microsoft Office and email in a professional setting, along with a strong ability and eagerness to learn new programs and platforms
