Job summary

Air Products’ Edmonton HyCO facility is seeking a Maintenance Technician to perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on rotating equipment and plant systems. You will troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair mechanical equipment while supporting reliability and safety in a demanding petrochemical environment.

The role requires a Journeyperson Millwright Red Seal, overtime willingness, and on-call rotation participation.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent. Journeyperson Millwright Red Seal certification required.
  • Trade or technical degree, apprenticeship, or related mechanical training preferred.
  • Ability and willingness to work overtime and participate in an on-call rotation in a 24/7 environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on pumps, compressors, turbines, valves, fans and related mechanical equipment.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair mechanical, pneumatic, piping, and associated plant systems.
  • Coordinate and supervise contractors, vendors, and technical specialists; support turnaround planning and execution.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records in SAP and manage spare parts inventory; implement improvements for reliability.

Join our Edmonton HyCO facility as a Maintenance Technician and play a critical role in maintaining safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations.

In this hands-on role, you will be responsible for performing preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on a variety of rotating and mechanical equipment, including pumps, compressors, turbines, valves, fans, and associated plant systems within a continuous petrochemical manufacturing environment. Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, this position is ideal for a certified Journeyperson Millwright who thrives in a safety-driven, high-reliability operation and enjoys solving complex mechanical challenges while supporting plant reliability and operational excellence. This is a 24/7 operating facility; flexibility to work overtime and participate in a rotating on-call schedule is required.

Key Responsibilities:

Mechanical Maintenance & Reliability: Perform routine, preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on pumps, compressors, turbines, valves, fans, journal bearings, and related mechanical equipment. Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair mechanical, pneumatic, piping, and associated plant systems. Execute critical maintenance activities in accordance with Process Safety Management requirements. Support high equipment reliability and plant availability through effective maintenance execution and planning feedback.

Project & Contractor Coordination

Coordinate and supervise contractors, vendors, and technical specialists as assigned. Support turnaround planning and execution activities across operating units. Provide technical support for installation, assembly, commissioning, and modification of plant equipment and systems. Serve as a key contact for external maintenance and service providers.

Safety, Compliance & Team Collaboration

Demonstrate a strong commitment to EH&S, regulatory compliance, and safe work practices. Work closely with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, and Reliability teams to achieve plant objectives. Assist with incident investigations and implement corrective actions when required. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment across production and office areas.

Documentation & Continuous Improvement

Maintain accurate maintenance records, equipment history, and investigation findings using SAP. Manage spare parts inventory and initiate purchasing requests as required. Provide recommendations to improve preventive maintenance programs and site reliability. Complete all required training and support continuous improvement initiatives.

Required Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent. Trade or Technical Degree, Apprenticeship, or related mechanical training. Journeyperson Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) Certificate (Red Seal). Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License with a clean driving record. Ability and willingness to work overtime and participate in an on-call rotation within a 24/7 operating environment.

Preferred Experience & Skills

Minimum 4 years of industrial plant maintenance experience. Experience in petrochemical, chemical, oil and gas, manufacturing, power generation, or related process industries. Experience maintaining compressors, multistage pumps, turbines, valves, fin fans, and rotating equipment. Strong troubleshooting, fault isolation, and root cause analysis capabilities. Proficiency with SAP PM and Microsoft Office applications. CAD and mechanical drawing experience considered an asset. Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Demonstrated leadership, accountability, and safety-focused mindset.

Working Conditions

Continuous process manufacturing environment. Exposure to outdoor weather conditions year-round. Exposure to elevated noise levels requiring appropriate PPE. Work at heights and operate company-supplied mobile equipment as required. Occasional travel to U.S. facilities for training or operational support. This role is designated as a safety-sensitive position and requires successful completion of a pre-employment drug and alcohol test and may be subject to ongoing testing in accordance with company policy and applicable law.
