Location: Belleville, Ont.

Shift: Mon-Fri. Afternoon shift starting at 2:30 PM

The opportunity

The Maintenance Supervisor is accountable for providing maintenance direction and promoting excellence in all maintenance activities in the manufacturing plant of complex operation and/or large volume. The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for supervising day-to-day maintenance activities, including timely troubleshooting, root cause analysis and correcting performance issues. The position ensures safe operation, attainment of key targets and results, and effective leadership of work teams while identifying and leading continuous improvement initiatives. This is an afternoon shift position starting at 2:30 PM.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate planning, priority setting and follow-up of maintenance activities to facilitate optimum plant performance, including scheduling of maintenance personnel and contractors. Work with Production Supervisors, Maintenance Planner, Maintenance Supervisors and Maintenance Buyer to optimize maintenance resources utilization.
  • Provide leadership to improve health and safety performance by modeling safety and applying the corporate health & safety program elements. Focus on incident prevention through hazard identification, implementing necessary controls, training, education, and audits. Take corrective action to address unsafe situations and employee behaviours, uphold Lactalis’ safety rules and procedures, and communicate with appropriate resources to address hazardous conditions or unsafe conduct.
  • Provide leadership and supervision to staff by giving work direction, performance feedback, and recommendations for training and development. Promote a positive labour-management relationship and ensure compliance with the Company’s corporate and legal obligations under the Collective Agreement (where applicable), as well as statutes and regulations such as the Employment Standards Act, Workers Compensation Act, and Occupational Health & Safety Act.
  • Monitor and ensure contractors adhere to facility procedures and achieve contractual requirements, including equipment installations, modifications and maintenance. Ensure all activities are conducted in compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements, GMP requirements and business standards.
  • Ensure superior operating performance through identifying opportunities and implementing improvements in costs and plant operations; troubleshoot production equipment performance issues and provide effective and timely corrective action; implement maintenance and preventive maintenance programs and schedules; coordinate unplanned equipment breakage repair, including manpower, materials and time requirements and follow-up to ensure work is completed to standards.
  • Act as liaison between the Production, Maintenance, and Engineering teams to ensure resources are effectively utilized, issues resolved on a timely basis, and required approvals are obtained per Plant Purchasing and Process Change policies.
  • Assist with department budget by monitoring expenditures versus plan, and set up costs in SAP or CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems).
What you will bring
  • College diploma or university degree or equivalent trade certification
  • Three (3) to five (5) years experience as a plant maintenance supervisor, preferably in a unionized environment
  • Three (3) years related experience in the Electrical & Controls and/or Mechanical field
  • Experience in implementing preventative maintenance systems and managing maintenance budgets in accordance with an established operating plan
  • Strong understanding of process systems particularly in relation to dairy or food manufacturing facilities
  • Strong knowledge of process systems, high-speed packaging, food plant experience
  • Proven leadership, troubleshooting, and team-building skills; ability to lead and supervise skilled trades group
  • SAP or CMMS (Maximo) maintenance system skills and experience, including work plans, work orders, equipment BOMs
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills
  • Proficient with standard office computer technology such as Lotus Notes, Microsoft Office products, and database/management systems
