The location in Port Mellon, British Columbia, is seeking talent to fill the position of Maintenance/Planner Superintendent.

The incumbent reports to the Operations Manager and is responsible for developing, implementing, directing, planning and coordinating planned and unscheduled maintenance activities. They direct maintenance activities to ensure that the site operations systems and equipment are kept in excellent working order and condition. Their activities are prioritized to optimize site operations efficiency and minimize downtime. They systematically organize and prioritize the department workload. They also establish a site-driven safety program that results in safe work practices and procedures. They maintain a highly cohesive and motivated workforce that is properly equipped and physically and technically capable of predicting the site maintenance work requirements and implementing effective maintenance programs. They work closely with other departments on stabilizing the site process, equipment upgrades and alterations to enhance efficiency. The incumbent provides leadership in the development and implementation of site and corporate policies and procedures. They contribute to budget planning, tracks and adjusts expenses to stay within budget. This position leads and manages the Maintenance Department to achieve a high standard of maintenance services in a manner that ensures reliability and good conditions to enhance site operations.

Areas of Responsibility

• Ensures that maintenance tradesmen have the required skills and behavior to work safely and effectively leading to the achievement of established objectives. Ensures that maintenance processes meet safety and environmental codes, policies and regulations.
• Implement best maintenance practices and processes.
• Effectively use the maintenance management systems for Planning and Scheduling Guidelines.
• Develops and maintains preventive maintenance programs.
• Estimate and plan ongoing maintenance work.
• Ensure necessary spare parts and requisition materials from stores as required for planned jobs.
• Ensures that preventive and predictive work is included in maintenance scheduling.
• Administer and maintain the work order system.
• Establishes and utilizes KPI’s.
• Develops effective, realistic plans for Maintenance Activities.
• Adjust plans and activities to meet changing site needs. Adapts to change quickly and independently.
• Coordinates and directs maintenance requirements for the site.
• Understands and supports the missions and values of Domtar.
• Builds teams with diverse skills and strengths.

• Maintains constant communication with operations to minimize disruptions due to maintenance.
• Responsible for overall site aesthetics; including organization and cleanliness of the site.
• Maintains a highly effective, properly equipped and physically and technically capable work force to predict the site maintenance work requirements and implement effective and efficient maintenance programs.
• Assists in overall cost effectiveness by determining the budgetary requirements for maintenance and manages within the budget guidelines.
• Accountable for effective usage of capital funds and providing leadership in the preparation of capital job requests and their completion within established specifications.
• Contributes to increased production and maximizes uptime of the operation by the dedication of tradesmen and materials through the application of maintenance management methods.
• The incumbent assesses the effectiveness of repairs and determines additional practices and technologies to be applied to these processes; and initiates appropriate action.
