Job description

Status: Regular Full-time

Shift: Monday – Friday 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM

The North West Company (NWC) is looking to fill a position at our Winnipeg Logistics Service Centre. As the Maintenance Person, you provide building and equipment maintenance/repair, supporting both Winnipeg warehouse facilities under the direction of the Maintenance Manager to ensure safety, productivity, and profitability.

Your Role
  • Assist and perform repairs to facility conveyors, HVAC, storage racking, door restraints, overhead doors, dock plates, and material handling equipment (e.g., End Riders Short and Long, Reach Trucks, Order Pickers, Counter Balance, Bobcat, Fork Lifts, Aerial Lift).
  • Assist and perform preventative maintenance of HVAC, overhead doors, dock plates, door restraints, industrial batteries, conveyors, and material handling equipment (e.g., End Riders Short/Long, Reach Trucks, Order Pickers, Counter Balance, Bobcat, Fork Lifts, Aerial Lift).
  • Assist and attend to maintenance requests received by the Maintenance Department for all services or repairs.
  • Basic knowledge of fire alarm and sprinkler systems.
  • Assist with Supervisor or Maintenance Technician on preventative maintenance duties as required.
  • Ability to understand repair manuals.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to provide superior customer service to both internal and external customers.
  • Ability to work effectively, both under minimal supervision and within a team environment.
  • Snow removal and landscaping maintenance as needed.
  • Ability to become certified on material handling equipment.
  • Attend to repairs for the culinary department equipment.
  • Stock and remove water jugs to all warehouse satellite offices, common spaces and meeting rooms.
  • Graffiti removal.
  • Cleans light fixtures and replace bulbs as required.
  • Clean and disinfect water fountains, refrigerators, and microwaves.
  • Completes daily, weekly and monthly checklists on building equipment maintenance procedures.
  • Responds to emergency maintenance requests as required.
  • Assists with the renovation/remodeling of the building; repairs, plasters and drywalls; painting building structures including masonry work.
  • Current CPR Level C certificate is an asset.
  • Understand the importance of safety in the workplace / follow all health and safety procedures and policies.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned; undertaking other duties appropriate to the level and character of work as instructed by the Maintenance Technician, Supervisor and Maintenance Manager.
Desired Skills & Experience
  • Basic numeracy skills.
  • Operate motorized cleaning equipment.
  • Ability to lift 75 lbs unassisted and periodically overhead.
  • Proficient in reading and writing materials at an intermediate level.
  • Collect plastic wrap, cardboard, and waste materials from warehouse and ensure effective removal as needed or requested.
  • Perform general housekeeping duties inside and outside the warehouse; water and tend to flowers, shrubs and beds.
  • Class 5 License and reliable vehicle to travel between locations within the city as required.
  • General knowledge of Microsoft Office, Outlook.
