Job summary

Edison Properties is seeking a Maintenance Person to help keep our buildings safe, functional, and welcoming in Winnipeg. You will work both independently and with a team, handling maintenance tasks, safety compliance, and responsive tenant service.

The role requires 2–3 years of building maintenance experience, exposure to trades such as electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and mechanical, and the ability to lift up to 50 kg. On-site work with potential on-call responsibilities is expected.

Qualifications

  • 2–3 years of apartment/commercial building maintenance experience.
  • Exposure to trades such as electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and mechanical.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License and clear background checks.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 kg and stand for extended periods.

Responsibilities

  • Follow all legislated and company safety regulations and use PPE.
  • Inspect facilities, test equipment, and report unsafe conditions.
  • Complete work orders including troubleshooting, minor repairs, and general fixes.
  • Plan and organize work orders, keep work areas clean and document logs.
  • Communicate clearly with tenants and staff; participate in on-call rotation.

Job description

The Maintenance Person plays a key role in ensuring our buildings remain safe, functional, and welcoming. This position works both independently and as part of a team, collaborating with other trades and staff. Strong customer service, proactive communication, initiative, and teamwork are essential, in addition to solid technical skills.

Key Responsibilities:
Safety & Compliance
  • Follow all legislated and company safety regulations.
  • Safely operate tools and equipment; use required PPE.
  • Inspect facilities, test equipment, and report unsafe conditions.
  • Ensure tenant and coworker safety; protect belongings when working in suites.
Maintenance & Repairs
  • Complete work orders such as appliance troubleshooting, minor A/C or water heater repairs, and general building fixes.
  • Perform small projects including painting, carpentry, plumbing, preventative maintenance, flooring, and cleaning tasks.
  • Plan and organize more advanced work orders as needed.
  • Keep work areas clean and follow SOPs for quality and timely completion.
  • Assist with training new staff when required.
Customer Service
  • Communicate clearly and respectfully with tenants, managers, caretakers, and contractors.
Reporting & Administration
  • Use a smartphone for communication and documenting work.
  • Submit purchase order requests for supplies and tools.
  • Complete basic logs and documentation.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
  • Minimum 2-3 years of apartment/commercial building maintenance experience.
  • Experience and/or exposure to trades such as electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and/or mechanical is required.
  • Ability to work independently and manage priorities.
  • Experience with Yardi is an asset.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License.
  • Ability to maintain a clear Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check.
  • Willingness to work occasional hours outside regular schedule and participate in on-call rotation.
  • Physical ability to stand or walk for extended periods and lift up to 50 kg.
  • Basic computer/smartphone skills.
