Job summary

General Mills Winnipeg is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic to perform preventive and reactive maintenance on processing and packaging equipment. The role requires mechanical and electrical troubleshooting, and the ability to work 12‑hour shifts Thursday to Saturday with night differential.

The successful candidate will maintain safety practices, manage work orders in Maximo, and support continuous improvement initiatives while contributing to a fast-paced production environment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • 2+ years experience in industrial maintenance or related field.
  • Solid understanding of mechanical and pneumatic systems; basic electrical troubleshooting.
  • Experience with tools including multimeter, voltage checks, motor testing, and panel work.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team and lift up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive and reactive maintenance on processing and packaging equipment to improve reliability and performance.
  • Follow safety policies to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Install, repair and replace industrial machinery, tools and equipment.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical or electronic issues and troubleshoot effectively.
  • Manage work orders, parts requisitions and data entry in Maximo.
  • Support plant leadership with equipment troubleshooting and modifications.

Starting Pay: $27.97 per hour up to $44.29 per hour

.80 per hour shift for the night shift 12-hour shifts Thursday - Saturday

Your Work Schedule and Shift Information
  • 12-hour shifts
  • 4th shift: Thursday – Saturday 6:00pm to 6:00am
  • Must be willing to work overtime, weekends, nights, holidays and emergency events as needed
  • Plant operates 24 hours/day, 7 days/week.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Perform preventive and reactive maintenance on processing and packaging equipment to improve reliability and operational performance
  • Understanding and following all company safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe working environment
  • Installing, maintaining, repairing, and replacing industrial processing and packaging machinery, work tools and equipment
  • Identifying/diagnosing and troubleshooting mechanical issues, electrical and/or electronic issues
  • Management of work orders, parts requisition, and data entry through understanding and use of Maximo Maintenance Management System
  • Providing technical support and plant leadership for equipment troubleshooting and equipment modification
  • Understanding, initiating, and participating in Root Cause Analysis (Why, Why)
  • Performing both uptime and down time preventative maintenance
  • Effectively communicate and productively interact with all levels of team personnel and outside contractors, vendors, visitors, etc.
  • Participate in Continuous Improvement initiatives to increase platform performance
  • Assist in training new employees
  • Other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Must possess the ability to understand and effectively communicate with co‑workers, supervisors, and others in the workplace regarding work matters (our business is generally conducted in English)
  • 2+ years (minimum) experience in industrial maintenance or related industry experience and/or equivalent education in a related field/industry
  • Must have a solid understanding of mechanical and pneumatic systems, basic electrical troubleshooting skills, ability to diagnose problems, repair or replace components, preventative maintenance and attention to detail
  • Experience with various tools and technologies, including hand tools, power tools, basic electrical skills including using a multimeter; checking voltage, testing motors, safely opening panels, resetting breakers, identifying faults and use of a CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System)
  • Ability to work independently and as a team with flexibility to quickly shift work priorities
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb, bend, push, pull, and twist for extended periods
  • Willingness to work in hot, cold, noisy, wet, or dusty conditions
  • Ability to climb and/or work at heights while utilizing stairs, ladders, personnel lifts, or platforms
  • Ability to follow human and food safety, quality, and grooming standards
  • Ability to wear such as protective clothing and equipment (Personal Protective Equipment -PPE) such as safety shoes, safety glasses, hearing protection, hard hat, hair/beard net, gloves, and face masks (when required)
  • Ability to work around high-speed machinery and food allergens
