Full-Time Maintenance Labourer

Location: Palliser Education Centre - Lethbridge

Anticipated Start Date: April 14, 2025 (or date mutually agreeable)

Assignment: Maintenance Labourer (Facilities & Maintenance Department)

FTE: 1.0 FTE (40 hours per week) Full-Time Permanent

Palliser School Division is accepting applications for a permanent full-time position of Maintenance Labourer in the Facilities & Maintenance Department. Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, the successful candidate is responsible for work orders, regular maintenance of schools, irrigation, snow removal, and other duties as assigned. This position is located out of the Palliser Education Center in Lethbridge, Alberta, commencing April 14, 2025, or when a suitable candidate is found.

Qualifications: The successful candidate will include strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills. Preferred minimum of 2 years’ experience working in a maintenance or related environment with strong knowledge, skills and the ability to multitask. The successful applicant will have previous experience with building maintenance, carpentry, mechanics, and welding.

Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:

  • Complete daily work orders as assigned by School Facilities Supervisor
  • Repair of all furniture in schools
  • Repair/replace hardware
  • Construct and install all tackboards required by schools
  • Inspect and repair playground equipment and play spaces
  • Repair and/or erect chain link fencing
  • Perform general maintenance duties in schools (windows, wall repair, gutters, fascia, minor roof repairs, minor plumbing)
  • Transport furniture and any educational material from school to school
  • Transport risers to schools from maintenance shop as required
  • Perform minor construction when required (T-bar ceilings, ceramic tiling, erecting walls, drywalling, etc.)
  • Respond to intrusion and building alarms during and after normal working hours
  • Change ballasts when required
  • Assist other Maintenance personnel when required
  • Install cabinetry constructed in-house
  • In conjunction with the Maintenance Supervisor, meet with school administrators and staff to determine what needs have to be met for any construction projects
  • Courier mail to designated schools once a week, if required
  • Repair underground sprinklers when required. Ensure that underground sprinkler lines are blown out before winter season
  • Minor roof repairs
  • Make emergency deliveries of supplies and materials

In order to maintain a safe and secure working environment, applicants new to The Palliser School Division must provide:

  • Criminal Record Check, including vulnerable sector check from Local Police Service or RCMP detachment
  • Social Insurance Number (SIN) card or document issued by Service Canada; SIN card/document must be in current legal name. Name on SIN card/document must match your Government Issued ID and Criminal Record Check
  • Government issued ID - valid driver's license, valid passport or Nexus card
