Position Overview

The Maintenance Aide is responsible for supporting the safe, functional, and well‑maintained operation of the Long‑Term Care Home in accordance with the Fixing Long‑Term Care Homes Act, 2021 (FLTC), Ontario Fire Code, Occupational Health & Safety Act, and all applicable legislation, standards, and collective agreement provisions.

Responsibilities
  • Perform routine and preventative maintenance of building, grounds, and equipment.
  • Complete minor repairs including drywall, painting, plumbing fixtures, lighting, flooring, and hardware.
  • Respond to and document maintenance work orders using the home’s computerized maintenance system.
  • Support life safety systems, fire safety checks, emergency preparedness activities, and drills.
  • Assist with contractor coordination while ensuring safety, IPAC, and policy compliance.
  • Identify hazards, report deficiencies, and support corrective actions.
  • Follow Infection Prevention & Control (IPAC) practices and use PPE as required.
  • Physical demands include lifting, bending, standing, and use of tools.
  • May be required to work evenings, weekends, or on‑call.
Requirements
  • Secondary School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in building or facilities maintenance preferred, ideally in healthcare or LTC.
  • Knowledge of basic electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems.
  • Strong safety awareness and ability to work independently.
  • WHMIS and Health & Safety training (or willingness to obtain).
  • Fire safety training.
  • Police Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening.
  • Medical clearance as per public health guidelines.
Compensation
  • Pay: $24-27 / hour (Depending on experience and assignment)
