The Opportunity

This role is ideal for a seasoned pulp and paper professional who enjoys being close to the operation, leading teams on the floor, and driving safe, efficient production. You will oversee daily paper machine operations, partner closely with cross-functional teams, and play a key role in delivering quality products to customers while supporting long term operational goals.

What You Will Do
  • Lead and promote a strong safety culture by being visible on the floor and actively supporting safe work practices
  • Manage daily paper machine operations through hands‑on leadership, floor presence, and regular communication with your team
  • Review production orders and schedules to ensure efficient, reliable machine performance
  • Partner with Purchasing to secure high‑quality materials at the best possible cost
  • Collaborate with Sales and Customer Service to ensure customer requirements and quality standards are met
  • Ensure management operating systems are followed consistently
  • Support budgeting efforts by providing operational input to Finance
  • Reduce overruns and guide decisions related to aged or excess inventory
  • Keep salaried and hourly teams informed and aligned with company priorities, performance, and operating philosophy
  • Ensure teams are properly trained to meet current needs and future customer requirements
  • Participate in daily production meetings and contribute to safety, capital, project, contractor, and business reviews
  • Provide paper machine coverage on a rotating weekend schedule
  • Support food safety programs including GMPs, HACCP principles, and food safety standards

  • Proven leadership experience in a pulp and paper manufacturing environment

Required Experience and Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the pulp and paper industry
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
Preferred Background
  • 8+ years of pulp and paper industry experience
Work Environment

This role balances office‑based planning and reporting with hands‑on time in the mill. Approximately 65% of time is spent in an office setting, with the remaining 35% spent supporting teams on the floor in an active manufacturing environment that includes noise, heat, humidity, and industrial conditions.
