Job summary

lululemon is seeking a Principal Engineer to define technical vision and drive implementation for major initiatives across our global networks and infrastructure. You will mentor senior engineers, influence architecture across teams, and ensure secure, scalable operations at scale.

The role requires hands-on coding, cross-functional collaboration with architects, and willingness to go beyond business hours as needed. Hybrid work with onsite collaboration is supported.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, or equivalent; Master’s or PhD strongly preferred.
  • 11-15 years of progressive software engineering experience with large-scale systems, architecture, and leadership.
  • Expert-level coding ability with production-grade code across multiple languages.
  • Experience analyzing complex system interactions and balancing immediate delivery with long-term scalability.
  • Experience defining implementation plans for cross-organizational technology programs; collaboration with architects.

Global Networks and Infrastructure is responsible for the design, engineering, and day‑to‑day operations of the core network and infrastructure platforms that keep our business running. The team is highly focused on resilience, reliability, scalability, security, and cost optimization-ensuring our environments are stable, performant, and ready to evolve with business demand. We run and continuously modernize advanced platforms across our footprint, partnering closely with product and engineering teams to deliver foundational capabilities and a dependable, secure experience for guests and educators.

core responsibilities

As a Principal Engineer, you will define technical vision and drive implementation approaches for major organizational technology initiatives, leveraging deep technical expertise to shape how the organization builds and operates technology at scale including engineering practices, implementation approaches, and technical investments. You will collaborate closely with architects on company‑wide technical architecture providing deep technical expertise on implementation feasibility and operational implications, serve as advisor across the organization on complex technical challenges, and wear multiple hats including hands‑on engineer, technical coordinator, and thought leader. You will mentor and develop senior engineering leaders building organizational capability, influence organizational direction through technical insights on implementation approaches, and represent the organization externally through conference presentations and engineering community involvement. This role may require availability outside of standard business hours, including on‑call support, based on business needs.

Select responsibilities include:

  • Define implementation vision and approach for major technology initiatives to effectively and efficiently deliver the technology solution design
  • Demonstrate expert‑level functional coding proficiency, writing high‑quality production code to solve the complex technical challenges when hands‑on expertise is required
  • Collaborate closely with architects on company‑wide technical architecture providing deep technical expertise on implementation approaches, feasibility assessment, and operational implications
  • Challenge and improve existing architecture decisions by identifying limitations in current systems and proposing technical solutions based on system design expertise
  • Provide executive‑level technical advisory on complex implementation challenges and technology recommendations focused on build vs. buy decisions, technology selection, and implementation risk assessment
  • Drive engineering practices and technical workflows adopted company‑wide, shaping how the organization builds andoperatestechnology and increasing engineering throughput
  • Drive engineering velocity and throughput improvements across multiple teams through process optimization, tooling enhancements, and removal of systemic blockers
qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science , Information Systems, Information Technology, or equivalent experience; Master's or PhD degree strongly preferred
  • 11-15 years of progressive software engineering experience with demonstrated expertise in large-scale system design, technical architecture, and cross‑functional leadership across multiple technology domains, or equivalent
  • Expert‑level coding ability with a track record of writing production code to solve the most critical and complex technical challenges across multiple languages and frameworks
  • Deep experience analyzing complex system interactions to identify optimal solution approaches; proven ability to make technical trade‑off decisions balancing immediate delivery needs with long‑term scalability and organizational impact
  • Experience defining implementation plans and execution approaches for complex, cross‑organizational technology programs; familiarity collaborating with architects to translate architectural design to actionable engineering roadmaps
  • Recognized depth in one or more technical domains combined with the breadth to assess system‑wide implication; proven ability to make rapid, high‑confidence judgements on when to engage directly versus delegate
  • Demonstrated ability to influence product strategy and investment decisions through technical insights on feasibility, risk, and business impact
  • Demonstrated experience with multi-cloud networking, Kubernetes, service mesh, network security, SDWAN, directory services, certificate services, and device management. Experience with AWS, Azure,Aviatrix, Cisco, Juniper, Palo Alto, ZScaler , Entra ID, SecureW2, Intune, and JAMFpreferred.

compensation and benefits package

lululemon's compensation offerings are grounded in a pay-for-performance philosophy that recognizes exceptional individual and teamperformance. Thetypical hiring range for this position is from $ 196,600 - $258,100 annually ; the base pay offered is based on market location and may vary depending on job‑related knowledge, skills, experience, and internal equity. As part of our total rewards offering, permanent employees in this position may be eligible for our competitive annual bonus program and equity offerings , subject to program eligibility requirements.
