Job description
LTO EA Level D – Extended Day After School – 7.5 hrs/wk

This posting is open to WRDSB employees who are members of the EA Association as well as external applicants. Staff already in an LTO are not eligible to apply to this posting if it will conflict with their current LTO. All Long Term Occasional assignments are subject to a revised end date with 2‑weeks notice. Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) serves approximately 65,000 students in 123 schools, as well as alternative and continuing education sites. Qualifications / Requirements
  • A condition of employment as an EA/CYW with the Waterloo Region District School Board requires that one must pass a Physical Demands test. All job offers will be conditional on the candidate passing all components of this test.
  • Educational Assistant Qualifications:
    • Certified Teachers Educational Assistant Diploma or Educational Support Diploma from an accredited post‑secondary institution
    • Developmental Service Worker (DSW) from an accredited post‑secondary institution
    • Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) from an accredited post‑secondary institution
    • Social Services Diploma (SSW) from an accredited post‑secondary institution
  • Alternative EA Qualifications with Experience:
    • Post‑secondary degree in Sociology from an accredited post‑secondary institution AND a minimum of one (1) year (1,224) hours of related work experience preferably directly supporting special needs children.
    • In lieu of relevant related work experience, the Board may consider significant relevant volunteer experience.
    • Minimum six‑month diploma from an accredited post‑secondary institution in a child‑related discipline AND a minimum of one (1) year (1,224) hours of related work experience preferably directly supporting special needs children.
    • Minimum six‑month certificate from an accredited educational institution in a child‑related discipline AND a minimum of one (1) year (1,224) hours of related work experience preferably directly supporting special needs children.
    • Post‑secondary degree/diploma from an accredited post‑secondary institution that is complementary to supporting special needs children as solely determined by the Board AND a minimum of one (1) year (1,224) hours of related work experience preferably directly supporting special needs children.
  • Assets: A valid Behaviour Management Systems certification, proven ability and recent experience in working with students with special needs and behavioural disabilities is strongly preferred and school‑based experience, Autism Spectrum Disorder Training, lifting/positioning training, interviews.

  • Under staff screening and police record checks; employees are required to obtain a Vulnerable Sector Check issued by a Police Service on or before every fifth anniversary after the date of the most recent vulnerable sector check.
