Team

The Team: The Ministry of Forests is seeking a dynamic individual to contribute and work alongside an existing high functioning range program team in the Northeast. The Northeast District Range Team is committed to a range strategy that emphasizes ongoing range stewardship and meaningful engagement and co‑operation with First Nations and with tenure holders.

Role

The Role: Reporting to the Range Officer, the District Range Agrologist role has a strong field component and acts as the expert for the District’s Range Program. Key range activities include: First Nations and tenure holder relations; operational planning, inventory (plant species composition, forage productivity and usability, livestock limiting factors, range use levels and stocking rates), range tenure administration (grazing and hay cutting, grazing leases), range developments and practices, effectiveness evaluations, and ecosystem restoration.

Qualifications: Education and Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science in Range Management, Plant Ecology, or related field that includes range science, other related science, or natural resource management.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in range management and administration or environmental management.
  • Registered, or immediately eligible for full registration, as a Professional Agrologist (PAg) with the BC Institute of Agrologists (BCIA). Applicants who do not meet the professional requirement may be considered at a lower classification. Confirmation of registration/eligibility is required before an offer of employment can be made.
  • Experience in planning, preparing and delivering oral presentations and training to diverse groups inside and/or outside government and experience conducting effective meetings.
  • A valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence or equivalent.

Preference may be given to candidates with one (1) or both of the following:

  • Experience working with First Nations; and/or,
  • Experience with field work – specifically in remote locations.

This position can be based in the following Ministry of Forests’ offices: Dawson Creek or Fort Saint John; other locations within the North Area may be considered. Depending on the successful candidate’s location, a bi‑weekly isolation allowance may apply. Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to two (2) days at home per week subject to an approved Telework Agreement. Applicants who do not fully meet the required qualifications may be considered for this position, but at a lower classification. A Criminal Record Check (CRC) will be required.
