Job summary

BC Public Service seeks a Senior Highway Design Engineer to provide water resources and highway drainage expertise for transportation projects across British Columbia.

Qualifications

  • Seven (7) years of related engineering experience (highway drainage, hydraulic engineering, water resources, etc.).
  • Must have valid driver’s license (BC or equivalent).
  • Must be registered or immediately eligible for registration as a P.Eng. with EGBC.

The Role

As the Senior Highway Design Engineer, you will provide engineering expertise in water resources and highway drainage to support transportation projects across the province. You'll lead technical work, provide trusted advice, and work with a range of partners to deliver practical solutions that balance safety, environmental stewardship, and long‑term resilience.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Civil Engineering or equivalent as recognized by the relevant association; AND
  • Seven (7) years’ of related engineering experience, such as: duties associated with highway drainage, hydraulic engineering, water resources engineering, development review, design review, climate resilience and risk, assessment, consultant management, and water resources support of emergency response engineering services.
  • Valid class 5 BC driver’s license or an equivalent driver's license from another province or jurisdiction.
Professional Registration and Certification Requirements
  • You must be registered, or immediately eligible for registration, as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Engineers & Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC).
    • Note: "Immediately eligible for registration" means meeting all requirements for full professional registration and completing the process of obtaining full registration with the relevant BC professional association within six (6) months of employment.
    • Applicants holding a Professional Licence (P.L.Eng.) in a relevant discipline may be considered provided the licence scope allows the incumbent to independently undertake and assume professional responsibility for the full range of duties associated with highway drainage, hydraulic engineering, water resources engineering, development review, design review, climate resilience and risk, assessment, consultant management, and water resources support of emergency response engineering services.
