Job summary

Position Summary

OMS Montessori is seeking a full-time Montessori Lower Elementary Guide to join our established and thriving Montessori community. We are looking for a passionate and reflective educator who understands the developmental needs of the second plane of development (ages 6–12) and is committed to fostering independence, curiosity, responsibility, and joyful engagement through authentic Montessori practice.

Location: 335 Lindsay St, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada K1G 0L6

Start Date: August 2026

About Our School

OMS Montessori / The Element High School is a well-established not-for-profit Montessori school serving 400 students from Toddler through Grade 12. With more than 80 dedicated staff members, our school community is rooted in Montessori principles and committed to maintaining fidelity to the method while thoughtfully preparing students for high school and beyond.

Responsibilities
  • prepare and maintain a rich, orderly Montessori environment that supports independence and purposeful work,
  • present Montessori materials across the curriculum, including the Great Lessons,
  • support uninterrupted work cycles and student choice within clear and consistent expectations,
  • guide students in both independent and collaborative learning within a multi-age classroom,
  • observe students closely, maintaining detailed records of academic and developmental progress,
  • foster a classroom community built on mutual respect, responsibility, and grace and courtesy,
  • partner meaningfully with families through conferences and ongoing communication,
  • collaborate with colleagues to ensure program continuity across the elementary years,
  • participate actively in faculty meetings and professional development.
Qualifications & Attributes
  • holds AMI Montessori Elementary credentials or equivalent,
  • has 3 to 5 years of experience in a Montessori elementary environment,
  • demonstrates a strong understanding of Montessori philosophy and the developmental characteristics of the second plane,
  • is skilled in observation, record-keeping, and individualized lesson planning,
  • values the three-year cycle and long-term student growth,
  • communicates clearly and professionally with students, colleagues, and families,
  • is committed to ongoing professional development and reflective practice.
Compensation And Other Details

Compensation is commensurate with experience.

Hours of work: Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
