Job summary

A transportation company in Caledon East is seeking a full-time truck driver to operate trucks, perform vehicle inspections, and manage cargo. The role requires an AZ class license, attention to route planning, and vehicle maintenance. Ideal candidates will be trained onsite. Flexible hours, with pay rate at $36.00 hourly.

Qualifications

  • AZ class license is required.
  • Class 1/1F/A Licence for semi trailer trucks is necessary.

Responsibilities
  • Calculate the cost of truck repairs and new parts if needed
  • Plan or adjust routes based on changing conditions, using computer equipment, global positioning systems (GPS) equipment, or other navigation devices, to minimize fuel consumption and carbon emissions
  • Coach colleagues on new methods or work techniques
  • Arrange travel, related itineraries and make reservations
  • Drive as part of a two-person team or convoy
  • Load and unload goods
  • Obtain special permits and other documents required to transport cargo on international routes
  • Operate and drive straight or articulated trucks to transport goods and materials
  • Oversee condition of vehicle and inspect tires, lights, brakes, cold storage and other equipment
  • Perform brake adjustments
  • Perform emergency roadside repairs
  • Perform pre-trip, en route and post-trip inspection and oversee all aspects of vehicle
  • Perform preventive maintenance
  • Receive and relay information to central dispatch
  • Record cargo information, hours of service, distance travelled and fuel consumption
  • Tarping and ensuring safety and security of cargo
