Job summary

MLT Aikins LLP in Calgary is seeking a Litigation Legal Assistant to provide administrative and clerical support to the advocacy group. You will create and edit legal documents, prepare court materials, and manage calendars and travel for lawyers.

This role requires organizational prowess, sharp proofreading, and strong communication skills. The ideal candidate has 3–5 years in active litigation, strong MS Word/Excel/Outlook skills, and the ability to handle deadlines in a fast-paced team

Qualifications

  • Graduate of a recognized legal assistant program (equivalencies will be considered)
  • Minimum of three to five years of experience in an active litigation practice
  • Advanced computer skills including Word, Excel, Outlook and document management software
  • Familiarity with insolvency matters would be an asset
  • Experience working on Federal Court filings would be an asset
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills along with strong proofreading, writing, spelling and grammar skills
  • Ability to maintain an efficient electronic file system using strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail
  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple deadlines under strict time constraints
  • Ability to follow instructions with minimal supervision
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, professional team environment
  • A client-focused approach and commitment to providing exceptional service to internal and external clients

  • Preparing court materials such as books of authorities, application records, appeal records, factums and extracts and key evidence
  • Maintaining lawyers’ calendar and contacts, scheduling client appointments as directed and arranging travel schedules as necessary
  • Organizing and prioritizing numerous tasks and completing them under strict time constraints
  • Performing client conflict checks, opening new client matters and maintaining established files
  • Preparing client billings, responding to billing inquiries and coordinating with clients for billing preference
  • Maintaining an efficient manual and electronic file system using strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail

Job summary

This position is responsible for providing administrative and clerical support forlawyers in the advocacy group of the Calgary office.
