Job summary

TD Bank Group in Toronto, Ontario, is seeking a Paralegal/Law Clerk/Litigation Assistant to organize AB case files, track deadlines, and draft briefs for trials, arbitrations, and appeals.

Responsibilities include coordinating with insured clients, experts, and vendors; preparing submissions, motions, and hearings; ensuring compliance with LAT Rules, Civil Procedure, and Small Claims Court; and maintaining accurate case management records.

Qualifications

  • Paralegal/Law Clerk diploma or Legal Assistant certificate from a recognized institution or equivalent experience.
  • 1-5 years of Paralegal/Law Clerk/Litigation Clerk/Legal Assistant experience or equivalent.
  • Experience in insurance litigation or general litigation is preferred.
  • Experience supporting trials, appeals and/or arbitrations preparation is preferred.
  • Knowledge of LAT Rules, Rules of Civil Procedure, Rules of Small Claims Court, and SABS is beneficial.
  • Knowledge of legal documents and standard office procedures.
  • Strong drafting, communication, and organizational abilities.

  • Flag conflicts and track deadlines to ensure LAT timelines are met.
  • Draft and prepare case conference summaries, briefs, submissions, and authority briefs for trials, arbitrations and appeals.
  • Assist with drafting motions and preparing preliminary issue hearings.
  • Ensure documentation and submissions comply with rules, procedures, and deadlines.
  • Create and manage deadlines in the internal case management system to ensure timely completion of tasks.
  • Obtain and serve documents from clients, opposing parties and vendors.
  • Notify experts and coordinate their attendance at hearings and provide required materials.
  • Draft, issue, and serve summons-to-witness and process attendance fee cheques.
  • Assist in LAT hearings, trials and appeals preparation.
  • Comply with all procedural rules and deadlines throughout the case lifecycle.

Pay Details: 66,800 - 94,300 CAD This role is eligible for a discretionary variable compensation award that considers business and individual performance. Responsibilities

Job Requirements
  • Education: Paralegal/Law Clerk diploma/Legal Assistant certificate from a recognized educational institution or equivalent work experience at a reputable law firm or legal department
  • Experience: 1-5 years Paralegal/Law Clerk/Litigation Clerk/Legal Assistant experience or equivalent
  • Background: Background in insurance litigation, including personal injury and accident benefit claims (preferred), and/or general litigation experience
  • Experience: Experience supporting trials, appeals and/or arbitrations preparation preferred
  • Knowledge: Knowledge of the LAT Rules, Rules of Civil Procedure, Rules of Small Claims Court, and SABS Knowledge
  • Knowledge: Knowledge of legal and court documents and procedures
  • Knowledge: Knowledge of standard office equipment and word processing
  • Special Abilities: Excellent oral and written communication
  • Special Abilities: Ability to communicate effectively with insured clients, claims representative and court/tribunal staff
  • Special Abilities: Excellent legal drafting skills and eye for detail
