Job summary

Telecon is seeking a Lineman to assist in installing telecommunications cables for our infrastructure team in Belleville and Campbellford, Ontario. You will operate line/bucket trucks, read plans, and install copper or fiber cables outdoors, while adhering to safety policies.

Requirements include a valid DZ license, 1–3 years lineman experience, ability to lift 80 lbs, and willingness to undergo a background check. Strong communication and teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

• Holds a valid DZ License and a clean drivers abstract.
• Willingness to complete a Canadian Criminal Background check at Telecon's expense.
• 1–3 years of lineman experience and ability to work at heights.
• Able to lift up to 80 lbs. and work outdoors in all weather.

Responsibilities

• Operate line and bucket trucks and climb as needed.
• Read and interpret work plans and follow Telecon’s safety policy.
• Place copper or fiber optic cables outdoors in various conditions.
• Climb poles and equipment to install cables and apparatuses.
• String cables between structures with proper tension.
• Record and report project progress to supervisors.
• Work at heights up to 30+ feet.
• Perform other duties as required.

Job description

Working under the supervision of the Foreman, the Lineman will assist in the installation of telecommunication cables and apparatuses to support the Telecon Infrastructure team in Belleville & Campbellford (positions available in both locations).

This is a unionized position with benefits and pension programs through LiUNA.

YOU WILL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO:

• Operate line and bucket trucks as well as manual climbing
• Read and interpret work plans or job specifications to execute all work assigned safely and in accordance to Telecon’s Health and Safety policy
• Work outdoors in various conditions to place copper or fiber optic telecommunication cables
• Must be able to climb poles, ladders and a variety of construction equipment to assist in the installation of telecommunication cables and apparatuses
• String cables between structures, manholes, from poles, towers or trenches and ensure that all are to proper tension
• Clean and maintain tools and equipment
• Accurately record and report project progress to the appropriate supervisory person and communicate any issues or expected delays
• Work at heights up to and exceeding 30 feet
• Other duties as required

THIS ROLE IS FOR YOU IF YOU HAVE THE FOLLOWING SKILLS AND QUALITIES:

• Holds a valid DZ License and a clean drivers abstract
• Willingness to complete a Canadian Criminal Background check at Telecon's expense
• 1-3 years of lineman experience
• Able to complete the necessary training for working at heights and confined space, pass the corresponding examinations and receive a client authorization number as required
• Able to lift up to 80 lbs.
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
• Good communication skills with the ability to work independently or in a team
• Must be able to speak, read and write English
• Demonstrated commitment to health and safety and willing to receive applicable Health and Safety training as per legislative and job requirements
• Must be able to provide a clear criminal record check and a clean driver’s abstract
