Job summary

Bardel Entertainment is seeking a Lighting Lead to direct the lighting and compositing teams on an animated feature. You will ensure the continuity of the artistic vision while managing technical and production challenges across all shots.

Ideal candidates bring 5+ years in production with leadership in fully animated or hybrid projects, and strong knowledge of Katana, Blender, Renderman, and Nuke. UNIX scripting and clear communication are essential for this role.

Qualifications

• 5+ years production experience with strong working knowledge of various software platforms.
• 3+ years in a leadership role on a fully animated or hybrid feature.
• Production experience in Katana, Blender, Renderman and compositing in Nuke.
• Strong understanding of lighting and compositing techniques and principles.
• Knowledge of UNIX and shell scripts.
• Ability to plan and execute complex 3D lighting scenes with layers and passes.
• Strong communication skills and interpersonal abilities.
• Demo reel with shot breakdown listing jobs performed for each shot.

Responsibilities

• Lead the lighting and compositing teams to deliver the expected visual style.
• Maintain the quality and consistency of lighting and compositing across all shots.
• Collaborate with the CG Supervisor to assess technical feasibility and propose solutions.
• Assign tasks to artists based on their skills and experience for optimal workflow.
• Review work regularly, provide feedback, and approve shots for submission.
• Direct and guide teams to balance artistry with productivity and budget constraints.
• Oversee the compositing process ensuring seamless integration of all elements.
• Solve complex technical and creative lighting/compositing challenges.
• Manage shot continuity and maintain visual language across sequences.
• Work with production management to stay on schedule and within budget.
• Develop and oversee Lighting & compositing workflow, tools, schedules, and assignments.
• Maintain up-to-date documentation for the team and other supervisors.
• Provide constructive feedback and participate in hiring new artists.
