Lifeguard/Instructor - Aquatics

Competition No: 2025-108

Duration: Regular Part Time

Salary: $27.30 – 28.37 – 29.48 – 30.70 – 31.97/hour (2024 Rates)

Schedule: 48 hours bi-weekly (0.60 FTE); Friday from 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM; Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM

This position works in the Edmonds Community Centre Aquatic Services organizational unit. This position encompasses both lifeguarding duties and high‑quality swim instruction on an assigned shift, at Edmonds Community Centre. Our Lifeguard Instructors ensure the safety of swimmers utilizing the aquatic facility, provide a safe and clean environment, and engage with a diverse client base to provide exceptional customer service. We are looking for Lifeguard Instructors to educate on pool rules; perform minor maintenance tasks; provide first aid treatment; lead instructional and recreational aquatic programs for all age ranges and to provide information to the public regarding swimmer progress and instructional evaluation techniques. Performs related work as required.

Qualifications include up to high school graduation, supplemented by courses in lifesaving, lifeguarding, aquatic instruction and aquatic fitness and pool maintenance, plus sound related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Sound knowledge of the theory and practice of lifeguarding, lifesaving, cardio pulmonary resuscitation and first aid is required; as well as the ability to display sound aquatic skills and to instruct in these skills at standards set by relevant authorities. A Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard – Pool, Lifesaving Society Swim for Life Instructor, Standard First Aid, and B.C.R.P.A. Aquatic Fitness Leader certificate is required. Please note that a Police Information Check is required for this position.
