Job summary

The City of Yellowknife is seeking a Lifeguard/Instructor within the Community Services Department. You will provide constant safety supervision, instruct a variety of aquatic programs and deliver exceptional customer service to residents and visitors.

Requires a Grade 12 diploma and at least 1 year of lifeguard/instructor experience with current National Lifeguard, Lifesaving Society, and First Aid/CPR certifications. The role includes shift work and opportunities for professional growth.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 diploma and a minimum of 1 year of experience as a lifeguard and/or instructor.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work shift work are required.
  • Current certifications: National Lifeguard, Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor, Lifesaving Instructor, and Standard First Aid AED/CPR (Basic Rescuer).

Responsibilities

  • Provide constant safety supervision at all times.
  • Instruct a wide variety of aquatic programs and deliver exceptional customer service.
  • Assist with special events and maintenance duties; may act as shift leader in the Pool Supervisor/Assistant Pool Supervisor's absence.

We are currently seeking a qualified and enthusiastic individual to assume the position of Lifeguard/Instructor with the Community Services Department.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Programs Manager and under the direct supervision of the Pool Supervisor and Assistant Pool Supervisor, the incumbent provides constant safety supervision, instructs a wide variety of aquatic programs, delivers exceptional customer service and assists with special events. This position is also responsible for maintenance duties as assigned and may act as shift leader providing general directions to part‑time staff in the absence of the Pool Supervisor and Assistant Pool Supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS

The incumbent must possess a Grade 12 diploma and have a minimum of 1 year of experience as a lifeguard and/or instructor. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work shift work are required. The incumbent must possess current certification in the following:

  • National Lifeguard Certification
  • Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor Certification
  • Lifesaving Instructor Certification
  • Standard First Aid AED/CPR (Basic Rescuer)
SALARY

The City of Yellowknife offers a starting salary of $88,741.34 per annum, as well as a comprehensive benefits package.
