Overview

We are looking for high energy, initiative individuals who are experienced in Life Underwriting to join our world class Underwriting team. The Individual Life Underwriter has the opportunity to work with varied distribution channels including National Accounts, MGAs and Traditional Producers. You will also need to have an aptitude and demonstrated ability to think outside of the box to provide "solutions" and identify opportunities to exceed in your craft.

Responsibilities
  • Select & classify risks according to Manulife philosophy and standards
  • Provide excellent customer service and build positive relationships with all internal & external clients
  • Compliance with all legislation and consumer regulation as they apply to risk classification, privacy and disclosure
  • Identify and provide solutions to work related problems and procedures
  • Ensure team goals are met at all times and promote an atmosphere of confidence and trust with all customers in order to facilitate acceptance of decisions
Required Qualifications
  • Strong knowledge of human anatomy, medical terminologies, diseases, tests, treatment modes, medication and their application
  • Sound knowledge of non-medical risk
  • Exemplary customer service skills and excellent oral & written communication skills
  • Ability to comprehend, retain and apply current technical information to daily work issues
  • Knowledge of systems dealing with insurance applications, new business processes along with general PC skills (Word, Excel, Internet)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in LOMA and/or ALU courses or other insurance related courses
  • Regular and attending member at industry meetings, seminars and conferences
  • University/College Degree in a related discipline
  • Medical training / knowledge / experience
  • Demonstrated professional experience as a Life Underwriter
  • Experience and signing authority on cases of at least $500,000.
  • Bilingual (French, English)

Salary and Location

Referenced Salary Location: CAN, Nova Scotia, Halifax, 2727 Joseph Howe Drive. Working Arrangement: Remote. Salary range is expected to be between $64,575.00 CAD - $107,625.00 CAD.
