Job summary

Verve Senior Living in Ontario is seeking a Life Enrichment Manager to assess residents’ wellbeing and design meaningful activities that align with the residence’s vision. You will lead wellness programming across dependent living, memory care, and related settings, while coordinating with the National/Regional Director of Wellness.

You will recruit and mentor staff, manage calendar events and KPI reporting, and collaborate with community groups to enhance resident experiences.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Grade 12 education required.
  • Completion of a 2-year diploma in Therapeutic Recreation or related field.
  • Proficient in Word and Excel.
  • Strong written and verbal communication in English.
  • Demonstrated leadership aligned with Residence values.
  • Valid provincial Class 4 driver’s license with clean record.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Smart Serve certification required.
  • Experience or knowledge in dementia care is an asset.

  • Performs resident assessments to tailor leisure activities.
  • Promotes activities to residents, staff, families, and community; creates monthly calendars.
  • Gathers monthly participation data and reports KPI results.
  • Collaborates with Marketing on events and community outreach.
  • Manages staff recruitment, scheduling, and performance evaluations.
  • Oversees residence bus maintenance and safety inspections.

ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVE

The Life Enrichment Manager is responsible to assess each resident to determine their current state of wellbeing as it relates to their body, mind and spirit. Plans, implements and evaluates activities designed to inspire residents in accordance with the Residence’s vision, values and standards.

BACKGROUND/QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum Grade 12 education required.
  • Completion of a 2-year diploma in Therapeutic Recreation or a combination of education and experience in a related field (e.g., leisure services for seniors).
  • Proficient in computer applications, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities, aligned with competencies of the Residence.
  • Valid provincial Class 4 driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Current certification in Basic First Aid and CPR.
  • Smart Serve Certification required.
  • Experience and/or knowledge in dementia care considered an asset.
  • Resident-focused with values aligned to the Residence’s mission statement.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Participates in the Verve Quality Improvement (VQI) program.
  • Assists the National/Regional Life Enrichment Director of Wellness in rolling out key initiatives and programs and provides constructive feedback.
  • Participates in mandatory regular meetings with the National Life Enrichment Director of Wellness.
  • Leads programming in independent living, assisted living, and memory care residences/homes.
  • Completes initial and ongoing assessment of each resident to determine their interests and possible barriers to a fulfilling leisure lifestyle. Notifies appropriate departments of any changes with residents.
  • Effectively communicates and promotes the activities to residents, staff, families and the community to encourage participation. Collaborates with Marketing on joint events. Produces and distributes a monthly calendar of events.
  • Gathers and documents statistics monthly on participation in each activity.
  • Participates in Resident Care Conferences on a regular basis (if applicable).
  • Develops/ maintains relationships with community groups, senior groups, local churches and service organizations.
  • Delivers all Signature Programs and meets all KPI expectations in Welbi.
  • Maintains the residence’s bus, including legislated inspection reports, insurance coverage, cleaning and servicing.
  • Recruits, interviews and selects candidates. Serves as a leader and helps develop employees to ensure an adequate level of service and job standard are achieved. Conducts annual performance appraisals and addresses performance issues. Oversees and prepares staff scheduling to include shift changes, vacation and leaves of absence.
  • Plays a role in the modification and/ or communication of Residence’s policies and procedures.
  • Provides input into the preparation of the capital and operational budgets. Manages the department finance, including inventory management, purchasing and discretionary activities. Helps to review and promote initiatives that generate revenue (if applicable). Provides input for variance reports for any negative financial statements.
  • Participates in volunteer recruitment, orientation, training, recognition, evaluation and ongoing support.
  • Meets appropriate school protocols for student placements, including insurance and signed agreements as per Residence’s policies. Coordinates monthly volunteer meetings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the General Manger or delegate.
  • Complies with all corporate policies and procedures.
  • Completes all required mandatory training/education.
  • Complies with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, and Workplace Hazardous Material Information System/Globally Harmonized System. This includes recognizing health and safety hazards, reporting incidents, fulfilling responsibilities under the applicable legislation, as well as participating in in-services and fire drills. Participates in the ongoing Fire Prevention, and Pest Control programs and any other programs as required.
