Description

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) works as a member of the multidisciplinary health care team, collaborating on the delivery of holistic, comprehensive care and support to patients/residents and families. The LPN must be able to team lead effectively on their own. The LPN works to the full scope of practice in providing safe, quality care in accordance with established standards, and the Mission, Vision, Values, policies and procedures of Covenant Health. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the AUPE St. Therese Villa Collective Agreement.

Required Qualifications

Graduate of a Practical Nursing program or recognized equivalent required. Active registration with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA) required. Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (Level C) required.

Additional Required Qualifications

Minimum of 1 year of experience in a long-term care or geriatric setting. Basic knowledge of long-term care principles, including chronic disease management, medication administration, and wound care. Supervise and oversee Health Care Aides (HCA’s) in the administration of medications, ensuring compliance with prescribed protocols and safety standards. Strong clinical skills and the ability to perform nursing tasks with accuracy and compassion. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with residents, families, and the healthcare team. Ability to demonstrate empathy, patience, and professionalism in all interactions.

Preferred Qualifications

Certification or additional training in Geriatric Nursing or Long-Term Care Nursing (e.g., Certified Nurse in Long-Term Care (CNLTC)). Certification or training in crisis management techniques, such as Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI) or Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI). Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems, such as Connect Care. Skills in managing complex medical conditions and providing support for residents with cognitive impairments.
