Job Information

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Medicine at Stanton Territorial Hospital, you'll play a key role in delivering compassionate, patient-centered care within a dynamic, interdisciplinary team. You'll support patients' physical, emotional, psychosocial, spiritual, and educational needs while providing high-quality, evidence-based care. In this rewarding position, you'll contribute to the holistic treatment of adult patients experiencing medical conditions such as respiratory, cardiovascular, and organ diseases, helping them achieve recovery with dignity and respect.

The LPN, Medicine supports patients and families through all phases of care, assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation, while fostering effective communication between patients, families, and other healthcare professionals. This position advocates for safe, competent care, promotes patient education, and contributes to an environment conducive to learning and teamwork.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide direct nursing care to patients using the nursing process to deliver individualized, holistic care.
  • Support patients in achieving optimal health in situations of illness, injury, or end-of-life care.
  • Facilitate patient and family teaching related to illness, treatment, and discharge planning.
  • Collaborate with Registered Nurses and other healthcare professionals to coordinate and evaluate patient care plans.
  • Advocate for ethical practice environments and safe patient care.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, committees, and professional development.

Typically, the above qualifications would be attained by:

A Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) Certificate and a minimum of one (1) year of experience.

Additional Requirements
  • Must be licensed with the GNWT Registrar of Professional Licensing.
  • Proof of immunization in accordance with public health practices.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain certifications including:
    • Immunizations
    • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention
    • Blood Glucose Monitoring
    • WHMIS
    • CPR and Fire Training
    • IV Therapy for LPNs
    • Gastric Tube Care, Complex Dressings, Basic Medication Administration, and Urinary Catheterization

Labour Market Supplement

The successful incumbent will receive a $10,000 supplement upon hire and an additional $10,000 supplement after completion of 12 months of continuous employment contingent on remaining employed in an eligible position for a further 12 months. This is a taxable benefit and will be subject to applicable deductions
