Overview

Requisition Details: Employment Status: Temporary, Part-time (0.5 FTE). Program Name: Shift Nurse. Number of Hours Bi-Weekly: 37.5. Union/Bargaining Unit: NSNU - Portability of Seniority as per NSNU Agreement. Anticipated End Date: June 2026. On Call: No. Area of work: Truro, Colchester & East Hants Counties. Existing Vacancy: Yes. Time frame: School Calendar Year (September to June) with an option to renew. This position is for a Nurse who provides empathy, adaptability, and excellent judgment, and who enjoys working with children during the school calendar year.

Job Summary: The pediatric school and home nurse supports medically fragile children and their families in the community. As a school and home nurse, you will provide complex pediatric nursing care within a school setting and at times in the child\'s home. The successful candidate will work throughout the school calendar with an opportunity to supplement hours in the visiting nursing program.

Education, Designations and Experience
  • Must be licensed as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the province of practice
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification will be requested
  • Experience working with pediatric clients is preferred
  • Experience in community health an asset

  • Knowledge of community resources an asset
  • Excellent assessment, teaching, problem solving and communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt nursing practice to operating independently in a variety of situations

  • Must have personal vehicle and possess both a current driver\'s license and proof of vehicle insurance
  • A current and original copy of a satisfactory Criminal Records Check
  • A Vulnerable Sector Search and/or a Child Abuse Registry Check may be required
  • The use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be required
Working Conditions and Physical Demands

This role requires a detail-oriented approach in a dynamic environment, with physical activity including lifting, carrying (using proper techniques), bending, reaching, kneeling, and other movements that emphasize good body mechanics. Individuals in the role are required to walk, sit, stand, and climb stairs throughout the day, with some tasks requiring fine hand movements.
