As Providence Health Care prepares for the opening of the New St. Paul's Hospital, some aspects of this position may evolve during the transition period. While the overall nature of the role is expected to remain substantially the same, operational requirements may result in adjustments to scheduling, FTE, unit assignment, site or other operational details.

Our Float Pool nurses provide dynamic support across multiple units, including Medicine and Surgery, with occasional opportunities to work in Renal and Cardiac. Nurses rotate between units and never work two consecutive shifts in the same area, ensuring variety and a broad skillset.

Reporting to the Patient Care Manager or Resident Care Manager, the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides patient/resident-centered nursing care within an interdisciplinary team, in accordance with established policies, procedures, and professional standards. The LPN assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and documents care, advocates for patients/residents, and collaborates with RN/RPN staff when care needs exceed LPN scope. The role also includes participation in care conferences, quality and safety activities, orientation of staff and students, and incident reporting as required.

Minimum Nurse-to-Patient Ratios (mNPR) set the minimum number of nurses required to safely care for patients on a given unit. Developed in partnership with the Ministry of Health, the BC Nurses' Union (BCNU), and health organizations across British Columbia, mNPR provides a consistent and transparent approach to staffing that supports safe nursing practice and high-quality patient care. At Providence Health Care (PHC), our approach to implementing mNPR reflects our commitment to person-centred, socially just, compassionate care and our dedication to Indigenous cultural safety. Guided by our mission and values - Spirituality, Integrity, Stewardship, Trust, Excellence, and Respect - PHC is working collaboratively across all departments to ensure mNPR is thoughtfully adapted to the unique needs of each clinical program and specialty area. This tailored, values-driven implementation aligns with our commitment to compassionate, innovative, and patient-centred care and positions PHC to meet the evolving health needs of our patients, residents, families, and communities.
