Reporting directly to the Director of Care, the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is a regulated member of the interprofessional health care team who completes comprehensive client assessments, develops and implements client plans/care that addresses both physical and psycho‑social care needs. This position monitors ongoing client care and condition to ensure optimum functioning and ensures changes in client status are reported to the Staff Nurse. This position administers prescribed medications, supervises the delivery of medications by unregulated staff and collaborates with the interdisciplinary team.
The LPN’s practice encompasses the application of nursing knowledge, skills and judgement to assess client needs and provide nursing care that is reflective of their level of education and knowledge. In keeping with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta’s (CLPNA) Professional Practice Standards & Code of Ethics, Carewest’s Frame of Reference, Philosophy of Care, and Carewest policies this position maintains professional and ethical standards at all times. The demonstration of leadership is critical for success in this position. Responsible for other related duties as required.
