Overview

Work to your full scope of practice in the Acute Care, Emergency, or Combined Medical/Surgical department and with patients of all ages. In northern Alberta’s Big Lakes County, the Town of High Prairie offers proximity to outdoor activities and local education options. Opened in 2017, the High Prairie Health Complex features 30 acute care beds, obstetrics and surgical programs, emergency and outpatient departments, and a full suite of healthcare services. The attached JB Wood Continuing Care Centre has 67 beds. A Remote Retention Allowance provides an annual maximum of $3,000 (non-pensionable, hourly payable at basic rate).

Description

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family-centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Responsibilities
  • Provide safe, quality patient and family-centered care within your scope of practice.
  • Collaborate with an interprofessional health care team to plan, implement and evaluate patient care.
  • Utilize nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making in daily practice.
  • Direct other healthcare workers as needed and escalate clinical concerns in a timely and appropriate manner.
Qualifications
  • Required Qualifications: Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
  • Additional Required Qualifications: Ability to perform all aspects of the role including lifting up to 50 lbs. Basic computer skills. Strong leadership and critical thinking abilities, with the capacity to direct other health care workers, problem solve and escalate clinical concerns. Strong communication and organizational skills and a commitment to patient and family-centered care. Demonstrated ability to maintain collaborative working relationships with patients, families, and team members.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Two or more years of experience on a medical-surgical unit.
