Job summary

Battlefield Equipment Rentals, part of the Toromont Industries family, is hiring a Licensed Heavy Equipment Mechanic for Kingston, ON. You will maintain, diagnose, repair, and service a wide range of construction equipment, ensuring safety and reliability for our rental fleet and customers.

Ideal candidates have hands-on experience with CAT equipment, strong diagnostic skills, and a team-focused mindset, with a commitment to safety and quality workmanship in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Experienced Heavy Equipment Mechanic or 3rd/4th year apprentice with diagnostic skills.
• Hands-on repair and maintenance of construction equipment including Genie, Skyjack, CAT.
• Strong customer service and safety focus in a team setting.

Responsibilities

• Maintain clean, safe workstation and perform repairs per repair orders.
• Troubleshoot equipment issues and estimate repair costs.
• Inspect rental equipment for proper operation and identify faults.
• Replace defective parts and test to manufacturer specs.

As a key member of the Service team, the Licensed Heavy Equipment Mechanic plays a vital role in keeping our rental fleet and customer equipment operating safely, reliably, and effectively.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized workstation.
• Troubleshoot equipment issues and accurately estimate repair costs.
• Inspect rental equipment to ensure proper operation and identify faults or potential failures.
• Adjust, repair, or replace defective parts, components, and systems using hand and power tools.
• Test repaired equipment to confirm proper performance and manufacturer specifications compliance.
• Performs work as outlined on repair order with efficiency and accuracy in accordance with company and factory standards.
• Clean, lubricate, and perform routine maintenance on construction equipment.
• Service attachments and related working tools.
• Order parts as required to complete repairs efficiently.
• Complete service reports and related documentation accurately.
• Support branch operations by performing additional duties as assigned by the Branch and Service Managers.
• Work cross-functionally with other departments to ensure timely repairs and service delivery
• Collaborate seamlessly with your colleagues to create a supportive and efficient work environment.
• Follow all workplace safety protocols and environmentally sound practices, making sure everyone stays safe.

What We're Looking For

• Mechanical Experience: An experienced Heavy Equipment Mechanic or a 3rd/4th year apprentice with strong diagnostic and failure analysis skills. Hands-on experience repairing and maintaining a wide range of construction equipment including Genie, Skyjack and CAT.
• Aerial Equipment Technicians (Experience with and Manufacturers Certificates Skyjack, JLG, Genie, MEC, GMG, CAT, 310S, 310T or 421A considered an asset)
• Customer Service Oriented: Excellent communication skills and a knack for making customers feel valued.
• Computer Skills:Strong computer skills and familiarity with Cat systems (ET and SIS would be considered an asset)
• Team Player: Ability to work effectively within a team environment with the ability to juggle multiple priorities and work with minimal supervision.
• Independent Worker: Ability to work independently with excellent time management and organizational skills.
• Endurance: Ability to perform heavy lifting regularly up 50lbs.
• Safety Focused: A strong commitment to safe work practices, environmental responsibility, and Battlefield’s health and safety policies.
