Job summary

The York Region District School Board seeks a Library Technician on a term basis to support the school library services. The role involves developing and maintaining library collections, assisting students and staff, and performing clerical tasks related to cataloguing, budgeting, and inventory.

Under the direction of a Teacher Librarian, you will provide reference services, process materials, and collaborate within Learning Resource teams.

Qualifications

  • Secondary School Graduation Diploma with two years of post-secondary education in library information systems is required.
  • Minimum one year related experience is required.
  • An excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and current Board approved/implemented software is required.
  • Proficient verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills are required.

Responsibilities

  • To monitor and maintain a Card Catalogue/Automated Catalogue File of print and non-print material in accordance with Anglo American Cataloguing Rules.

Job description

Thank you for your interest in a career as a Library Technician with the York Region District School Board. This term Library Technician position is effective immediately ending on or about June 28, 2027, and is due to a vacancy.

This position is responsible for developing, organizing and maintaining a user oriented collection of Library/Resource Centre material under the direction of a Teacher Librarian and/or other resource staff in compliance with Board policies and procedures.

Important Information For CUPE 1734 Members

LA.11.7 Those twelve (12) month employees filling vacancies as a result of their applying to a job posting are to remain twelve (12) months at their position. Ten (10) month employees are to remain in their position until the end of the school year. This requirement can be waived with permission from the Superintendent responsible for Human Resource Services. This does not prevent employees from applying for a position or from applying for a promotion during the twelve (12) month period.
