Job summary

City of Winnipeg’s Millennium Library in Winnipeg seeks a Library Service Assistant 3 – Information Assistant to engage with customers, provide information services, and support cataloging and programming. The role requires adaptable, friendly staff capable of guiding patrons of all ages and maintaining a welcoming library environment.

The position is temporary, part-time, based on-site at Millennium Library, with varied hours and a focus on reader advisory, databases, and AV resources.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree or equivalent training/experience.
• Ability to reference/reader's advisory work is an asset.
• Ability to assist both children and adults.
• Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
• Broad knowledge of literature, current affairs and trends.

Responsibilities

• Assist customers in-person, by phone, and online with information and reader advisory.
• Instruct users on the Library's ILS system, online databases, and Internet resources.
• Assist with eBooks, Library Online Computer Booking, and audiovisual resources as required.
• Provide Public Computer training sessions and computer assistance as needed.
• Prepare for and host programs, including equipment setup.
• Create posters, booklists, and reading guides as needed.
• Provide tours and orientation sessions.
• Assist in maintenance and development of the collection.
• Take charge in the absence of leadership when required.
• Promote library materials and services.
• Perform related duties as required.
