Position Summary

The Dr. John Archer Library and Archives invites applications from dynamic, proactive, service- and team-oriented candidates for the tenure-track position of Library Assessment Coordinator. As the ideal candidate, you will be an innovative, motivated, enthusiastic, results-oriented librarian with a strong background in assessment and a demonstrated ability to use data to communicate the impact of library activities to stakeholders.

Instruction in finding information is also provided, both in the form of general orientations and class or subject specific instruction sessions. The Archer Library’s extensive collection of over 2 million items is listed in our Alma catalogue, as are the holdings of the University’s three Federated Colleges : Campion College, Luther College, and First Nations University of Canada. The Library also comprises the University Archives with collections consisting of original materials relating to the University, its faculty, staff, and students, dating from the inception of Regina College in 1911 to the present day. oURspace is the digital repository for scholarly literature, research results, official communications, and materials which define the cultural context of the University of Regina and Saskatchewan. The Library is a partner with several external organizations, including CRKN (Canadian Research Knowledge Network), COPPUL (Council of Prairie and Pacific University Libraries), CARL (Canadian Association of Research Libraries), the Multitype Library Board, and the Consortium of Academic and Special Libraries of Saskatchewan (CASLS).

About the position

Reporting to the Associate Dean (Academic), this position coordinates library-wide assessment initiatives and fosters a shared vision toward assessment goals. The position will include data collection, analysis, and documentation; developing and promoting evidence-based approaches to achieving strategic objectives related to library operations and user needs; and supporting colleagues engaged in assessment work. The Library Assessment Coordinator will serve as Chair of the Library Impact Team, which supports the Dean, University Libraries and Archives, in areas related to regular reporting, assessment, and communicating the impact of the Library. This position will also support the teaching and research needs in assigned areas, currently the Department of Psychology, and the Faculty of Kinesiology and Health Studies.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate library-wide assessment initiatives and strategies that enable continuous review, evaluation, and improvement of services and user experience under the direction of the Dean, University Libraries & Archives, Associate Deans, and the Library Leadership Team.
  • Serve as Chair of the Library Impact Team, supporting assessment and reporting needs for the Library and Archives.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to communicate the impact of the Library and Archives on student and faculty success.
  • Support library faculty and staff assessment projects.
  • Stay up to date on trends and best practices in library assessment.
  • Serve as liaison librarian to assigned faculties or departments, acting as the primary point of contact between the Archer Library and those academic units. The current assignment for this position is the Department of Psychology and the Faculty of Kinesiology and Health Studies.
  • Provide in-person and online information literacy sessions.
  • Conduct in-depth reference and research consultations with students and faculty.
  • Manage collections in assigned subject areas.
  • Engage in scholarship, research, creative or equivalent professional activities.
  • Work collaboratively with library colleagues on committees and working groups that advance all aspects of library planning, policy formulation and service delivery.
  • Advance the values and goals outlined in the Library’s and University’s strategic plans.
  • Serve on committees both internal and external to the University of Regina. The nature and scope of responsibilities for this and other library positions are expected to change as the Library organization evolves.

  • Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited program or equivalent.
  • Professional experience in library or institutional assessment.
  • Excellent organizational and written / verbal communication skills in English.
  • Knowledge of methods and software tools used for collecting, analyzing, and reporting data.
  • Knowledge of principles, practices and trends of assessment in libraries, including familiarity with both qualitative and quantitative methods.
  • Demonstrated ability to summarize and communicate complex data and trends to stakeholders at multiple levels.
  • A commitment to high ethical standards in data collection and analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams and / or work groups.
  • Demonstrated understanding of equity, diversity and inclusion.
  • Experience in providing training and instruction.
  • Experience in, or knowledge of, collection development practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated flexibility, creativity, and ability to innovate and adapt to a continually evolving environment.
