Norton Rose Fulbright Canada LLP is seeking a Legal Talent Assistant Director to join its Québec City office. Reporting to the Legal Talent Director, the successful candidate will manage the full talent lifecycle for students, articling students, paralegals, and associates for the Québec City office. This role has both strategic and operational importance, aligning local efforts with national objectives while shaping a strong and inclusive legal talent culture.

Key Responsibilities

Talent Acquisition & Onboarding

  • Develop and execute recruitment strategies tailored to the Québec City legal market, positioning Norton Rose Fulbright Canada as an employer of choice.
  • Lead full-cycle recruitment for students, articling students, paralegals and lateral associates.
  • Build relationships with local law schools, bar associations, and legal communities; coordinate and attend campus and firm-sponsored events.
  • Oversee onboarding for all legal talent new hires including coordination of schedules, Bar registration, documentation, training, and orientation programs.

Professional Development & Performance Management

  • Design and implement training, mentorship and development programs for students and articling students.
  • Collaborate with the national Professional Development team to deliver legal, business, and leadership training.
  • Lead performance management processes including evaluations, compensation, and feedback delivery.
  • Identify development needs and recommend resources such as coaching or targeted training.

Student & Articling Program Management

  • Manage the full student and articling student lifecycle: onboarding, rotations, mentorship, performance tracking, training, social programming, and hire-back decisions.
  • Coordinate logistics and compliance for student and articling student programs including licensing and insurance.
  • Organize and support the Student Committee.
  • Establish and monitor related budgets and expenses.

Associate & Paralegal Program Management

  • Guide associates and paralegals through key career milestones: recruitment, onboarding, compensation, evaluations, promotions, and secondments.
  • Provide career advice, workload planning support, and performance coaching.
  • Manage paralegal programs in collaboration with practice group leaders.
  • Lead the Associate Committee to identify associate concerns and needs and relay information appropriately to management.

Culture, Engagement & DEI

  • Support firm culture initiatives by championing diversity, equity and inclusion efforts.
  • Support the organization of local wellness, social, and recognition events.
  • Foster a respectful, inclusive, and collegial office environment aligned with firm values.

Operational & HR Leadership

  • Collaborate with national and local leadership on strategic talent initiatives and firm-wide priorities.
  • Oversee local legal talent operations, including headcount planning, budget oversight, workflow coordination, and vendor management.
  • Serve as the primary HR advisor for legal talent, addressing policy inquiries, conflict resolution, accommodations and wellbeing.
  • Use HR tools (e.g., Workday) for the day-to-day administration of human resources.
  • Monitor legal talent policies and conduct market research to ensure competitiveness of the firm.

Required Skills & Experience

  • A minimum of three years of experience as a lawyer (experience in a large firm is a great asset);
  • Experience in recruitment or talent management;
  • In-depth understanding of and interest in the legal field;
  • Experience in a position that requires tact, management skills and the ability to influence;
  • Interpersonal skills;
  • Leadership skills, ability to take initiative and think strategically;
  • Ability to prioritize and work independently with minimum supervision.
