A legal regulatory body in Alberta is seeking a Legal Counsel to engage in the professional disciplinary process, conduct legal research, draft documents, and assist in hearings. Candidates must have a law degree, be a member of the Law Society of Alberta, and possess 3+ years of practice experience. As a key member of the Counsel department and on behalf of the Law Society, Legal Counsel will be actively engaged on all steps taken throughout the professional disciplinary process including appeals and various internal hearings. Legal Counsel will be responsible for a wide range of legal work including legal research, drafting legal documents and all aspects of hearing preparation. The successful candidate should also have comfort and willingness to assist more senior counsel at various disciplinary hearings. The Counsel department actively supports the Law Society’s mission to be a model regulator, including protecting the public interest and preserving the fundamental principles of justice.
Success in this position requires excellent research, writing, communication, analytical, organizational, judgment, and time management skills.

We also offer a flexible hybrid working environment. In-office attendance is required three days a week, with the option to work remotely two days a week. You are also more than welcome to continue to work four or five days in the office if that is your preference.
