About The Opportunity

This maternity leave contract offers the chance to work closely with a collaborative litigation team supporting multiple lawyers across several practice areas, including business litigation, family law, and estate disputes. The role includes exposure to legal proceedings at all three levels of BC courts, with opportunities to build specialized skills in appellate procedure and multi-disciplinary legal support.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare, edit, and format a variety of litigation documents
  • File court documents electronically and coordinate with registries
  • Manage calendars, schedule meetings, and monitor deadlines
  • Handle client communications and follow-ups
  • Organize files and maintain accurate records
  • Support lawyers with trial preparation and document production

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

Must Haves
  • Certificate from an accredited Legal Administrative Assistant program
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a commercial litigation LAA role
  • Strong understanding of BC court procedures (BCPC, BCSC, BCCA)
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines with minimal supervision
Nice to Haves
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and legal document management software
  • Familiarity with family and estate litigation
  • Experience with electronic court filing systems (e.g., Court Services Online)
Contract Details & Compensation
  • Term: 12 to 15-month maternity leave contract
  • Salary: $55,000–$70,000 annually (based on experience)
