The Legal Assistant will provide essential support to a growing litigation team, managing multiple aspects of case preparation and administration. This role requires a proactive, detail-oriented individual who can work independently while collaborating closely with attorneys to ensure cases run smoothly.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Document Preparation & Management – Draft, format, and file legal documents such as pleadings, affidavits, statements of claim/defence, briefs, and correspondence. Ensure all documents meet court rules, deadlines, and accuracy standards.
  • File & Evidence Organization – Maintain organized client and case files, both digital and physical. Compile evidence, exhibits, and discovery materials, and assist with trial preparation binders and briefs.
  • Court & Schedule Coordination – Manage calendars, book court dates, mediations, examinations for discovery, and hearings. Monitor limitation periods and key deadlines to ensure timely submissions.
  • Client and Team Support – Communicate effectively with clients and team members, provide updates on case progress, and respond to inquiries professionally and promptly.
  • Administrative Excellence – Support day-to-day operations of the litigation team, ensuring tasks are prioritized and completed efficiently while maintaining attention to detail.

Education:

  • Formal education in legal studies is not required. Practical experience and proven success in litigation support are prioritized over credentials.

Qualifications:

  • Clean criminal record check

Experience:

  • 3–5 years of relevant litigation experience in Alberta.
  • Experience supporting lawyers in case management, document preparation, court filings, and trial preparation is essential.

Skills:

  • Strong organizational and time management skills to efficiently manage multiple case files.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in document preparation and filings.
  • Proactive and solutions-oriented approach to problem-solving.
  • Ability to ask questions and seek clarification when needed.
  • Comfort working independently while collaborating effectively within a small team.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact professionally with clients and colleagues.
  • Ability to maintain poise and professionalism in a fast-paced environment.

Base Salary: $50,000-60,000+ per year

  • Compensation based on experience and litigation expertise.

Work Hours:

  • 40 hours per week

Additional Notes:

  • This opportunity does not include relocation. It will be the responsibility of the candidate should relocation be required.
