Situated on the traditional territory of the Nuxalkmc and serving the communities of Bella Coola, Hagensborg, and Firvale, Sir Alexander Mackenzie Secondary provides a unique learning and working environment. We are seeking an experienced and dynamic school leader for the position of Principal for Sir Alexander Mackenzie Secondary (SAMS). Serving roughly one hundred students, this school offers excellent core programming and has a well‑established Nuxalk Language and Culture program, an Outdoor Education program, trades, year‑round athletics, and a long history of supporting the Fine Arts. Occupying the same campus is a district‑run childcare centre, our 5‑7 school (NES), access to community biking and hiking trails, and a community Art House, together serving as a flagship for district initiatives in a valued community hub.

This is an outstanding opportunity to provide leadership in a district that values relationships and capitalizes on small school and community values.

Candidates Must Possess:
  • Demonstrated excellence as a teacher and educational leader;
  • Successful experience as a Principal or Vice Principal;
  • A demonstrated ability to create educational environments that are inclusive and focus on the comprehensive learning needs of all students;
  • The ability to establish a culture of staff engagement to support student success;
  • Current knowledge of sound instructional practice;
  • Demonstrated commitment and knowledge of Indigenous education;
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to build effective teams and a sense of community;
  • A Master's degree from a recognized university;
  • Certification, or eligibility for same, as a teacher in the Province of BC is a requirement.
