Powell Canada Inc. in Edmonton is seeking a Lead Person to oversee manufacturing and production activities within the Electrical Division.

You will assist in planning, organizing, and directing daily and weekly operations to meet production schedules and safety/quality standards. The role requires strong electrical and control systems knowledge, leadership experience, and ability to communicate with diverse stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of High School Diploma or GED.
  • Previous experience leading a team is preferred.
  • Basic to intermediate Microsoft Office applications skills (Word, Excel).
  • Ability to effectively work in a team environment.
  • Due to the safety sensitive nature of this position successful candidates will undergo pre-employment substance abuse and medical testing upon hire.

Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced troubleshooting and fault diagnosis on electrical, control, and communication systems to minimize downtime and maintain schedules.
  • Possess a strong understanding of electrical circuitry, control systems, and system integration principles.
  • Interpret and analyze electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and control drawings, with the ability to identify discrepancies and ensure alignment between documentation and field installations.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to team members, fostering collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Communicate technical issues, root causes, and corrective actions clearly and concisely to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate strong time management and organizational skills, effectively prioritizing tasks and managing multiple responsibilities simultaneously.
  • Hold team members accountable for safety, quality, and performance standards while promoting a positive and professional work environment.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision or collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Based in the Electrical Division Edmonton (EDE) facility, the Lead Person will report to the Manufacturing Supervisor in the Operations department. A Lead Person will be responsible for overseeing activities associated with manufacturing and production of products to meet production and customer requirements. The Lead Person will assist the Manufacturing Supervisor in planning, organizing, controlling and directing daily and weekly operations to ensure production scheduled for completion is executed in a timely manner and meets all safety and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities & Qualifications
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting and fault diagnosis on electrical, control, and communication systems to minimize downtime and maintain schedules.
  • Possess a strong understanding of electrical circuitry, control systems, and system integration principles.
  • Experienced with SEL relays, ammeters, fibre optic networks, Ethernet switches, and coaxial communication systems.
  • Interpret and analyze electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and control drawings, with the ability to identify discrepancies and ensure alignment between documentation and field installations.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to team members, fostering collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Communicate technical issues, root causes, and corrective actions clearly and concisely to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate strong time management and organizational skills, effectively prioritizing tasks and managing multiple responsibilities simultaneously.
  • Perform effectively in high-pressure environments while proactively planning ahead to reduce operational stress and maintain team productivity.

Work Authorization:

This is a permanent position. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in Canada at the time of hire. Immigration sponsorship is not typically available and will be considered only where supported by business needs and applicable legal requirements.

Working Conditions
  • Temperature controlled working environment. Some outside activities may be required.

  • Must wear personnel protective equipment at all times (i.e., hard hats, safety glasses, safety footwear, safety harnesses as required) and respirators when required.
  • Must be able to work from all types of ladders. (Step ladders, \"A\" frame ladders, and all-size extension ladders), elevated work platforms, scissor lifts, zoom booms etc.
  • Job requires working in a manufacturing setting.
  • Working in front of a shop floor computer for part of shift.
Physical Requirements
  • Maintaining body equilibrium and agility to prevent falling when walking, standing, crouching, ascending or descending stairs.

  • Bending the body at the waist, the legs at the knees, and extending arms and hands in any direction in a repetitive manner.
  • Standing, walking, and speaking for long periods of time.
  • Using upper extremities to apply or exert a force up to 40 lbs.
  • Typing, punching or applying pressure to an object with fingers and palm.
  • Perceiving size, shape, temperature or texture by touching with the fingertips.
