About the Role:

Capital One Canada is accelerating its investment in next‑generation Applied AI, Machine Learning, and Data Science capabilities. We are seeking an accomplished Manager‑level Technical Recruiter to lead strategic talent acquisition efforts across Toronto and Canada’s rapidly evolving AI ecosystem.

As a senior individual contributor, you will play a critical role in identifying, engaging, and securing exceptional technical talent across AI Engineering, Applied Research, Deep Learning, ML Infrastructure, and AI Platforms. Partnering directly with senior engineering and research leaders, you will shape hiring strategies, deliver actionable talent market intelligence, and develop innovative sourcing approaches to compete for highly sought‑after AI talent. This role requires a unique combination of deep technical recruiting expertise, strategic advisory capabilities, competitive talent intelligence, and exceptional candidate engagement. You will leverage data‑driven insights, advanced sourcing techniques, and recruiting technology to improve hiring outcomes, accelerate decision‑making, and deliver an outstanding candidate experience.

Your Responsibilities:
  • Lead Full‑Cycle AI/ML Recruitment: Manage end‑to‑end hiring for specialized AI Engineering, Machine Learning, Applied Research, MLOps, and AI Platform roles, from talent sourcing through offer acceptance.
  • Build Strategic Talent Pipelines: Identify and engage high‑caliber AI/ML talent across Canada’s key technology hubs, including Toronto, Waterloo, Montréal, and Vancouver, leveraging research communities, academic networks, and advanced sourcing platforms.
  • Partner with Technical Leaders: Collaborate with Engineering and Research leaders to understand hiring priorities, develop targeted recruiting strategies, and provide actionable talent market insights.
  • Optimize Recruiting Performance: Leverage recruiting metrics and talent intelligence to improve pipeline quality, hiring efficiency, candidate conversion, and offer acceptance rates.
  • Deliver Recruiting Excellence: Champion structured hiring practices, streamline recruiting processes, and provide an exceptional candidate and stakeholder experience throughout the recruitment lifecycle.
Basic Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of experience managing full‑cycle technical recruitment within high‑growth technology organizations, large enterprises, or executive search environments
  • 2+ years of specialized recruiting or sourcing experience across Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Natural Language Processing, Computer Vision, Applied Research, or Advanced Data Science, including experience hiring senior individual contributors and technical leaders at Manager, Senior Manager, Director, or Senior Director levels.
  • 2+ years of experience recruiting within the Canadian technology ecosystem, with demonstrated knowledge of talent markets across Toronto, Waterloo, Montréal, and Vancouver.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in advanced passive talent sourcing techniques, including GitHub, Google Scholar, Boolean/X‑ray searches, research publications, and technical conferences.
  • Proven ability to navigate complex compensation negotiations, including equity buyouts, sign‑on incentives, competing offers, and the successful closing of highly sought‑after technical talent.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Recruiting Process Excellence: Expertise in designing structured intake processes, competency‑based evaluation frameworks, actionable interview debriefs, and clearly defined service‑level agreements (SLAs) to accelerate hiring decisions and maximize candidate conversion.
  • Advanced Technical Fluency: Deep understanding of the AI/ML talent landscape, with the ability to differentiate between AI Engineers, Applied Researchers, Data Scientists, and ML Infrastructure Engineers, and effectively assess specialized technical expertise without relying on scripted evaluations.
  • Strategic Executive Partnership: Extensive experience advising Research VPs, Engineering Directors, and senior technical stakeholders on talent strategy, workforce planning, and critical hiring priorities.
  • Established AI Talent Network: Strong relationships with national AI institutes (Vector Institute, Mila, Amii, Scale AI, and top Tech universities).
Working at Capital One

  • Take ownership of your own potential: Whether you’re looking to upskill, pivot into new business areas, or master your craft, you’ll have access to tools and mentorship to reach your potential and define your career trajectory.
  • Find your rhythm: We believe trust fosters the flexibility and autonomy required to balance personal needs with a focus on high performance. We support a hybrid model – with 3 days in the office per week – that gives room for both collaboration and personal commitments.
  • Benefits built for your life: We take a holistic approach to well‑being, providing support for you and those who are most important to you.
