Job summary

RBC in Toronto is seeking a Lead Data Quality Engineer to design and execute data testing strategies across data platforms, ensuring reliable data and governance in a fast-paced financial services environment.

The role requires mentoring teams, collaborating with data engineering, architecture, and business partners, and driving automation and continuous improvement through metrics and governance.

Qualifications

  • 6+ years of hands-on experience in data testing and validation across various data platforms, interfaces, and data warehouses.
  • 5+ years of experience working with and testing relational databases; ability to write and test complex SQL queries and stored procedures
  • Strong proficiency with data testing and validation tools (DVO, QuerySurge, or similar frameworks) and data profiling tools (IDC/CDGC or equivalent)
  • Strong understanding of data models, ER diagrams, and ability to analyze complex data mapping and business rule documentation
  • Experience in ETL Tools like IICS, Informatica Power Center or similar and ETL scheduler tools
  • Proven experience in test data management strategy, provisioning, and automation; understanding of data governance and compliance requirements
  • Proven ability mentoring team members (onshore & offshore) and providing technical direction
  • Proficiency with Git version control, branching strategies, and strong experience testing and working in continuous delivery (CICD) environment.
  • Experience with test management tools (Azure Test Plans, Jira QMetry) and quality metrics reporting

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute comprehensive data testing strategies and automated testing solutions for data validation across multiple platforms, interfaces, and ETL processes
  • Design and implement automated data testing scripts and frameworks to validate data accuracy, completeness, consistency, and conformance to business rules
  • Create and maintain test management documentation; define, track, and report on quality metrics
  • Review and enhance data testing strategies for new and existing data initiatives
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into executable testing scenarios and validation rules
  • Manage defect tracking workflows and coordinate resolution with development and business teams
  • Work closely with vendors to implement testing solutions
  • Recommend improvements to testing processes, technology, and interfaces that improve the effectiveness of testing teams
  • Own test data management strategy and automation; ensure test data is properly provisioned, maintained, and compliant with data governance policies

Job Description

Lead Data Quality Engineer is responsible for creating and executing comprehensive data testing strategies and solutions, with focus on data validation, integrity testing, and quality assurance across data platforms and interfaces. This role ensures accurate test data delivery in a fast-paced environment while providing technical expertise and mentorship to team members. The position bridges data testing assurance with data engineering, architecture, and business teams to deliver robust, trustworthy data testing & test data solutions in a dynamic financial services environment.

What Will You Do?
  • Develop and execute comprehensive data testing strategies and automated testing solutions for data validation across multiple platforms, interfaces, and ETL processes
  • Design and implement automated data testing scripts and frameworks to validate data accuracy, completeness, consistency, and conformance to business rules

What Do You Need to Succeed?

Must have:
