Job summary

WSP in Canada seeks a Lead Geomorphologist to guide understanding of complex natural systems and influence major projects across Western Canada. This leadership role blends technical depth with strategic insight to strengthen communities and protect ecosystems.

You will mentor teams, manage scope and budgets, and drive innovative geomorphology solutions in fluvial and coastal settings, erosion control, and hazard mitigation.

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in Physical Geography or Earth Science.
  • Registered (or eligible within 6 months) as a Professional Geoscientist in western Canada regions.
  • Minimum 10 years of consulting or related experience with client development.
  • Expertise in fluvial, coastal, and hillslope processes, including debris flow and floods.
  • Experience in water resources and hydrotechnical projects, including geohazard assessments and erosion protection.
  • Proven leadership and mentoring abilities.

Responsibilities

Lead Geomorphologist

As a Lead Geomorphologist, you will guide the understanding of complex natural systems and help design solutions that strengthen communities, protect ecosystems, and support sustainable development across Western Canada. This is a leadership role where your technical expertise and strategic insight will influence major projects and shape the future of geomorphology within a multidisciplinary environment.

  • Lead fluvial and coastal geomorphology across multidisciplinary projects from proposal through completion
  • Drive business growth through strategic planning, client relationship development, and expanding service offerings
  • Apply advanced expertise in erosion processes, debris flows, sediment transport, and fluvial/coastal morphology to solve complex challenges
  • Guide process-based approaches to river and shoreline restoration and natural hazard mitigation
  • Provide technical direction for geoscience analyses supporting geo-environmental assessments and major surface water infrastructure design
  • Support detailed design and construction through development of technical specifications, cost inputs, and geomorphic interpretation
  • Lead and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams while managing project scope, budgets, and schedules
  • Mentor and grow talent across all experience levels, strengthening team capability and succession
Required Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in Physical Geography, Earth Science, or a related discipline (Master’s preferred)
  • Registered (or eligible within 6 months) as a Professional Geoscientist in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatoon or the Northwest Territories
  • Minimum 10 years of consulting or related experience with a strong record of client relationship development
  • Deep expertise in fluvial, coastal, and hillslope processes, including debris flow and flood events
  • Extensive experience in water resources and hydrotechnical projects, including geohazard assessments, sediment transport, erosion protection, and nature-based solutions
  • Proven leadership capability with strong problem-solving, collaboration, and team development skills
  • Experience with field investigations, construction site inspections, and guiding junior staff while upholding safety standards
  • Demonstrated success mentoring junior and intermediate professionals
Compensation

AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $110,600 - $146,500

MB & ON: $100,900 - $139,000

NB, NL, NS, PE & QC: $99,900 - $132,700

The final salary awarded for this role may vary from the above range based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.
