Q-Block Computing in Ottawa, ON is seeking a Senior Embedded Systems Architect to shape the firmware platform for distributed real-time control of quantum hardware. Qualifications

• 8+ years in embedded systems design with architecture/leadership.
• Expert-level C/C++ for embedded systems; multi-module firmware.
• ARM Cortex-M, DMA, memory-mapped I/O, real-time scheduling.
• Designing hardware abstraction layers and reusable drivers.
• Experience mentoring embedded engineers and leading reviews.
• Excellent written and verbal communication for architecture docs.

Responsibilities

• Define and maintain firmware and embedded systems architecture for a real-time control platform.
• Establish interface specifications, protocols, and data pipelines for low-latency coordination.
• Evaluate microcontroller families and RTOS-based scheduling for performance and reliability.
• Design reusable firmware libraries and board support packages.
• Lead firmware design reviews and establish coding standards and workflows.
• Collaborate with hardware, FPGA, platform, and systems teams on specs.
• Mentor Embedded Firmware Engineers and raise engineering standards.
• Identify risks and lead root-cause analysis with durable actions.
• Contribute to architecture docs, IP capture, and proposals.
• Stay current on embedded architectures and bring advances to the platform.
