Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a senior transmission design engineer to lead designs from 69kV through 765kV and to act as SME for 500kV/765kV projects in Canada. The role includes mentoring staff, coordinating with clients, and delivering compliant, well-documented studies.

The position supports a hybrid work model with in-office presence required three days per week in Calgary. Candidates will bring extensive experience with PLS-CADD, design calculations, and knowledge of relevant standards.

Qualifications

• BS in engineering from ABET- or ABET-equivalent accredited program.
• Minimum 12 years of transmission design experience.
• 3+ years in 500kV/765kV transmission line design.
• Familiarity with design standards (NESC, IEC, ASCE, ACI, IEEE, ANSI).
• Experience with preparing scopes of work, conceptual designs, design basis, equipment/material selection, and calculations/specifications.
• Experience collaborating with clients on 69kV–765kV transmission lines.

Description

Responsibilities may include the following:

• Lead the design of transmission lines in the 69kV to 765kV range.
• Serve as a subject matter specialist in 500kV and 765kV transmission lines
• Mentor and train less experienced design team members.
• Coordinate design activities to ensure installation and operations will comply with specifications, codes, and client requirements.
• Prepare reports and studies that present technical information in a clear and concise manner and meet client requirements and S&L formats.
• Perform independent reviews of work performed by others including calculations, drawing preparation, and transmission line models based in PLS-CADD.
• Adhere to Sargent & Lundy's System of Processes

This position is based on a hybrid work schedule and will require in-office work 3 days per week.

Essential skills and experience:

• BS degree from a Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board-accredited undergraduate program or a US based ABET-accredited program.
• 12 years of transmission design experience.
• 3 or more years of experience in 500kV and/or 765kV transmission line design
• Familiarity with the electrical considerations for 765kV transmission lines
• Proficiency with PLS-CADD software.
• Experience must include preparation of scopes of work, development of conceptual designs, determination of design basis, the selection of equipment and materials, and the preparation and assembling of calculations and specifications.
• Experience working directly with clients on transmission lines from 69kV through 765kV.
• Knowledge of engineering standards including NESC, IEC, ASCE, ACI, IEEE and ANSI.
• Experience reviewing design drawings created by others.

Valued but not required skills and experience:

• P.Eng license
• PMP certification
• Construction experience
• Familiarity with ArcGIS

Compensation Range

$146,996 - $192,932
