Rippling is seeking a Lead Counsel, HR Products to partner with Product, Sales, and Compliance as we launch EOR services in new jurisdictions. You will shape wage-and-hour product counsel for Payroll and Time, and serve as a trusted advisor to our HR product teams.

You are a self-starter with a strategic mindset, capable of building a world-class product counsel function at a rapidly growing company and delivering pragmatic guidance across global employment regimes.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in-house or at a law firm in employment law.
  • Strong California wage-and-hour expertise.
  • JD or equivalent law degree.
  • Experience with PEOs or EORs preferred.
  • Entrepreneurial, solution-minded, and hands-on.
  • Excellent drafting and communications skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide employment counsel to EOR HR Advisor teams.
  • Counsel Time and Payroll teams on wage-hour compliance.
  • Analyze rules across jurisdictions for hiring/offboarding via an EOR.
  • Prepare employment templates, termination notices, and policies.
  • Collaborate across Product, Operations, Business Development, Sales, and Client Services.
  • Navigate US and international regulatory frameworks for scalable solutions.
  • Drive compliance culture and integrity at Rippling.
  • Advise on Rippling's general legal needs.

About The Role

We are looking for a highly-motivated, business-minded attorney to join as Lead Counsel, HR Products on the Legal & Compliance team. In this role, you will partner closely with Product, Sales, and Compliance, and will report to our Assistant General Counsel, HR Products. You will provide key legal guidance to our business team as we launch our Employer of Record ("EOR") services in new countries, and will provide ongoing product counseling and employment counseling across our launched EOR countries. You will also serve as wage and hour product counsel to our HR product teams more broadly, including the Payroll and Time products. You are a self-starter and are excited to learn about new jurisdictions and new areas of law. You are a strategic thinker and want to build a world-class, highly efficient product counsel function at a rapidly growing company. You have a passion for providing creative, proactive, and pragmatic legal guidance.

What You Will Do
  • Provide employment counsel to our EOR HR Advisor teams.
  • Provide product counseling to our Time and Payroll teams, with a focus on wage and hour compliance.
  • Analyze and provide product counseling on employment rules and regulations and how to compliantly hire and offboard employees through an EOR in different jurisdictions.
  • Prepare employment agreement templates, termination notice and agreement templates, and policy documents for our EOR.
  • Partner with our Product, Operations, Business Development, Sales, and Client Services teams to build and manage Rippling's product counseling function.
  • Navigate complex regulatory frameworks in the US and abroad to create scalable and innovative solutions for our products and services.
  • Drive the compliance culture at Rippling and embed integrity and compliance in all of our operations as our company grows.
  • Advise and assist with Rippling's general legal needs as they arise.
What You Will Need
  • 5+ years of experience in-house or at a law firm.
  • Substantive knowledge of and experience with employment law, including strong California wage and hour expertise.
  • Substantive knowledge of and experience with employment law.
  • Law degree (e.g. JD or equivalent).
  • Experience with PEOs or EORs (preferred).
  • Entrepreneurial mindset, solution-oriented ethos, and ready to roll up your sleeves.
  • Passion for efficient processes.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent drafting and written and verbal communication skills with the ability to break down complex legal jargon into easy-to-understand and practical advice.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

A variety of factors are considered when determining someone's compensation - including a candidate's professional background, experience, and location. Final offer amounts may vary from the amounts listed below.

The pay range for this role is:

177,000 - 295,000 USD per year(US)

135,000 - 225,000 CAD per year(CA)
