The Job: Lead CMS Solutions Architect
The Lead CMS Solutions Architect is the enterprise technical leader responsible for architecting, governing, and optimizing our Content Management System (Contentful). Reporting to the VP, Digital Channels, you will drive strategy and execution for CMS design, integration, security, scalability, and performance. You’ll partner with Product, UX, Marketing, and Engineering to ensure our CMS underpins an exceptional digital experience for customers while meeting compliance and operational requirements.

What You’ll Do

  • CMS Architecture & Strategy – Own the enterprise-wide CMS architecture; design scalable, secure, and efficient solutions; create standards, patterns, and best practices to ensure consistency across teams and platforms
  • Solution Development & Delivery – Lead development and customization of CMS functionality; oversee back-end and front-end engineering efforts; ensure responsive, performant, and accessible design across web and mobile channels
  • Integration & API Leadership – Develop and manage integrations between CMS and other enterprise systems, including CRM, marketing automation, and analytics platforms; leverage REST/GraphQL APIs and microservices to ensure interoperability
  • Governance & Content Operations – Define governance models for content workflows, versioning, and permissions; partner with content strategy teams to ensure compliance, reusability, and scalability
  • Security, Compliance & Risk – Embed security standards into CMS design and operations; ensure compliance with privacy regulations, accessibility standards, and industry security frameworks; partner with InfoSec on controls and risk mitigation
  • Performance Optimization – Monitor CMS performance, optimize workflows, storage, and API calls; implement monitoring dashboards and alerting for uptime and user experience; continuously refine the platform for scalability
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration – Act as a design and technical thought partner to UX, Product, Marketing, and Engineering teams; ensure customer insights and business requirements are embedded into CMS solutions
  • Leadership & Mentorship – Lead, mentor, and coach development teams and vendors; provide architectural oversight, technical guidance, and code reviews; foster a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement
  • Innovation & Continuous Improvement – Stay ahead of emerging CMS trends and tools; recommend new capabilities to keep experiences modern, competitive, and customer-first

What You’ll Bring to the Table

  • Expertise in enterprise-grade CMS solutions (Contentful preferred), including architecture, configuration, and optimization
  • Hands-on experience with REST APIs, GraphQL, and microservices design
  • Cloud platform expertise (AWS, Azure, or GCP) with exposure to containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and CI/CD pipelines
  • Knowledge of SEO, accessibility (WCAG), localization, and content governance frameworks
  • Familiarity with personalization, A/B testing, analytics tagging, and tracking customer journeys across CMS-driven channels
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills; ability to balance speed, scalability, and stability in solutions
  • Excellent stakeholder communication skills, able to translate technical concepts into business outcomes
  • Strategic, customer-first mindset with the ability to drive alignment across product, content, and engineering

Education + Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field required; Master’s degree preferred
  • 8+ years of experience in CMS development and architecture, with at least 3 years in a senior or architect role
  • Proven experience leading or mentoring technical teams in large-scale enterprise settings
  • Hands-on experience with cloud CMS integrations, personalization engines, and analytics tools
  • Strong experience managing vendors or offshore development partners
  • Certifications in CMS, cloud architecture, or related technologies are an asset
