Fixed Term/Secondment - 18 months

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, innovative and highly motivated pharmacist to join NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde as the Lead Clinical Pharmacist for Emergency, Unscheduled Care and Regional Services within the South Sector.

This is a senior leadership role based primarily at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital (QEUH), one of the largest acute hospitals in Scotland and the future base for the development of the GG&C's new interface team. As services continue to evolve, this post will play a pivotal role in supporting the integration of acute, interface and unscheduled care pathways, ensuring patients receive safe, effective and timely pharmaceutical care across the healthcare system.

The successful candidate will provide strategic, professional and operational leadership for pharmacy services across Emergency Care and Medical Specialities. The post holder will work closely with senior clinical, operational and managerial colleagues to support patient flow, optimise medicines use and help address the increasing pressures experienced at the front door of the hospital.

The QEUH pharmacy service is supported by a strong senior leadership structure, including Lead Clinical Pharmacists for Surgery Critical Care and for Medical Specialties. This post completes the senior leadership team and will work collaboratively across these portfolios to ensure a coordinated and patient-focused approach to service delivery and development.

A key aspect of the role will be developing strong relationships with the South Sector Management Team and Board structures, ensuring pharmacy services are fully aligned with sector priorities, service redesign programmes and wider organisational objectives.

What We Are Looking For

We are seeking an experienced clinical leader with a passion for service improvement and a strong commitment to delivering excellent patient care. You will be able to operate effectively within a complex healthcare environment, influencing senior stakeholders and leading transformational change across multiple specialties and services.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record of service development, workforce leadership and delivering improvements in quality, safety and operational performance. Experience of working within acute, emergency or unscheduled care settings would be highly advantageous.

Essential Requirements

• Master of Pharmacy degree or equivalent.


• Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council.


• Postgraduate qualification in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent experience.


• Independent Prescriber qualification.


• Significant experience working at advanced or senior clinical pharmacist level.


• Demonstrable leadership and management experience within a complex healthcare organisation.


• Experience of service redesign, workforce planning and quality improvement.


• Excellent communication, influencing and stakeholder engagement skills.
