What you will do

Reporting to the Supervisor of Legal Support Administration, this role will support the daily operations of the Legal Department. In this role, you will manage an individual file load and prepare documents for court.

More specifically, your duties will include :

  • Preparing files for legal actions (i.e., plaintiff’s claims)
  • Managing and working an active legal queue
  • Drafting small claims court documents (i.e., affidavits, default judgments, garnishments, liens, motions, terms of settlements, letters, etc.)
  • Drafting and executing file closure documents
  • Meeting all legal action process deadlines
  • Working closely with various agents and court offices
  • Providing updates of file status

Other qualifications include :
  • Law Clerk Diploma or Paralegal Program graduate
  • Understanding of the Ontario Small Claims process and / or creditor’s rights
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Strong communication skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to multitask and meet deadlines
  • Previous experience in collections and / or small claims court procedure is preferred
  • Previous experience in a law firm or legal department is preferred
  • Familiarity with online filing procedures for small claims court (Service Ontario and Justice Services Online) is preferred
  • Bilingual (French / English) is considered an asset
  • Pass criminal background check
